Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
I was looking over some memories past and came across this pretty good estimation of the Haynesworth signing. Posted on 02/28/09 right after the news of the signing took place.
Ade Jimoh FC is a soothsayer...well done: Quote:

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
After reading all the posts on this topic I have concluded that no matter what is said no one is going to change the other camps view on Big Al. Its kinda like liver, you either really really love it or you really really hate it. That said, I'm glad Al is playing for the Skin's. If for no other reason than what he did when DeAngelo Hall was tossed to the ground like a rag doll, by his facemask, by the gnitts Jacobs last year. Big Al was right there, right then, mixing it up with the perps, in the defense of his team mate. Don't get me wrong, I don't want football to turn into hockey or nascar where everyone goes to see the fights/crashes, however there is a time and a place to standup for your team and your mates and I think he has done both. I really can't remember the last time I have seen that. I know it has happened.... but I just can't remember when.....
Ok, I'm the newbie so I'll shutup now and go sit quietly in the corner.

Welcome to the board KC. That's a feeble reason to like someone. I get the whole sense of team that is shown when someone does that but to have $41M obligated to this player as a centerpiece of your competitive team and not see that equal impact on the field, or off, is distressing to say the least. Not you specifically, but when some fans talk Redskins or football solutions, a lot of general machismo adages come up. Like a cure-all for the team can be verbally massaged with a pep-talk by a drill sargent with the masculinity of Chuck Norris. A lot of "We need a coach to yell in their face/get angry" and "This team needs to punch the other guy in the mouth". As great as those suggestions may seem it just dilutes what should be the focus of our team...our scheme. No tough words or phrases...no punches in the mouth or kicks in the ass...just trusting a coach to implement a scheme and sticking to that trusted coaches program for an appropriate duration of time. Once we commit to "building" toward a uniform direction for more than a House of Representatives term we'll see competitive progress. As fans, we shouldn't let the numerous Clint Eastwood/Schwarzenegger one liners cloud what is really important.

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
Thanks for the welcome Skinny. I apoligize, I should have made my opinion more clear. It isn't the ONLY reason that I like having AH as part of the team, there are many reasons but most have been posted here already, ad naseum. I guess I should have said "in addition to what has already been said "
Live and learn.... And I don't think my opinion was "feeble". I didn't imply that anyone needs to scream like a drill instructor or kick someones butt. What I like seeing is someone who has some fire in his gut and stands up for his team, instead of a bunch of prima donnas playing just hard enough to collect a paycheck, and some not even playing THAT hard and are STILL collecting a fat paycheck (Hint, one of them is "I don't do preseason", second hint, intials CP) Last edited by KC625; 04-12-2010 at 05:18 AM. |

What about coaches who let themselves be made a fool of so they can secure their paycheck for the year...lol. Both that reason and the fact that we're even uttering AH's name shows wherein lies the competitive problems our franchise has suffered.
