$50K for a company like Citi in a data analyst type role, or something like that, is worth a lot more than $50K from waiting tables at a typical restaurant.

IF both are making $50k I willing to bet the Hooters waitress net pay is higher. But you are right Citi job is a career so eventually over time that person will make more money. I am also just saying if you are looking for a well paying job that doesn't require a ton of education waiting tables or bartending may be a good route for you. I will add it is a lot of hard work and very stressful.

Re: Too FAT for Hooters?
I waited tables for a couple years while in school and once i worked my way up to good shifts and preferred sections I would make around 300 a week working around 15 hours. This was at a chain restaurant in Richmond that closed down. People working the same chain in the DC area were supposedly making at least 75k a year working full time.
But i didnt have to worry about health insurance at the time. But i also only reported like 30% of my credit card tips (which was the minium) and 0% of my cash tips (which wasnt much anyways). That said most people i know at other restrurants had to report different because of the way the tip out system worked.

Per year yeah, but when they're not so pretty anymore and ready to start a family, they'll wish they could even get a bank teller job.

Re: Too FAT for Hooters?
Agreed. But they can make very good money while young to finance an education. Unfortunately many who start out in the bartender/waitress industry get used to the quick cash and don't plan ahead.

Re: Too FAT for Hooters?
Indeed. I know a few Hooters girls that used it to pay their way through college. I know a few that got pregnant, became cheating housewives to servicemen, etc

That is exactly who waitresses there in Downriver Detroit, college gals needing money or their not so lucky unwed mom coworkers. The girl in the pic looks like the average Hooters gal in the Taylor restaurant. |
