Mr. Markey added: “In preparation for this hearing, the committee reviewed the oil spill safety response plans for all of the companies here today. What we found was that these five companies have response plans that are virtually identical. The plans cite identical response capabilities and tout identical ineffective equipment. In some cases, they use the exact same words. We found that all of these companies, not just BP, made the exact same assurances.”

Like BP, Mr. Markey said, three other companies include references to protecting walruses, which have not called the Gulf of Mexico home for three million years.

“Two other plans are such dead ringers for BP’s that they list a phone number for the same long-dead expert,” he said.

See thats what gets me about this whole thing and why we can point to both parties over the past 40 or more year not requiring the oil companies to have better equipment and plans for if we have a spill. To me that was really the only jod the goverment had in off shore drilling. Safty and making sure the oil companies had plans and equipment to deal with oil spills.

and these dipshits get paid 7 or 8 figures a piece per year. The stockholders of these oil giants should demand accountability so their investments don't lose $ 70B in value.

MMS needs to do its job and enforce tougher standard on these a-holes or shut down their leases. If MMS keeps having coke/sex romps with the oil companies this will happen again.

I worked in the industry for 6 years. If you don't get oil to a refinery within a certain time limit it goes bad. They take it out into the ocean, dump it, and burn it. Why they didn't burn this crap from jump street is beyond me? Oh . . .

Sometimes they go hand-in-hand, i.e. drunk drivers and BP. It does't take a genius to know what can go wrong.
