Your chainsaw will probably not work because it depends on electronic circuit boards. Your log splitter might work if it only runs off propane or compressed air, but then log splitters are overrated and a maul is more than enough for any splitting job. And if your splitter breaks? Well, you can use my maul.

Your john boat would still float, but I'm guessing the engine would not work since it also probably has electronics. But you're the guy who thinks all his gas powered stuff will work, so you probably won't have any oars. And if your engine fails? Oh, just take it to the shop for repair!

The point most overlooked is simplicity. In this type of event you would want items that are durable, and can be repaired in the field. Chainsaws and boat motors don't fall into this category.
