Haynesworth fails conditioning test

Albert Haynesworth's inability to run a third 300-yard sprint in a satisfactory time in the eyes of coach Mike Shanahan prevented him from practicing with the Redskins Thursday.

Haynesworth had to pass a conditioning test Thursday and he entered the day planning to do two sprints. According to a source, Shanahan believed Haynesworth had too much rest time between his runs and asked for a third.


Haynesworth failed the third sprint. A source said Haynesworth told Shanahan he never ran three such sprints during his best Pro Bowl seasons. Shanahan then told Haynesworth that he must not have ever been in shape, according to the source.

Shanahan and Haynesworth have been feuding since Shanahan became coach of the Redskins in early January. Haynesworth skipped all offseason work with the team because he didn't want to be in the team's new 3-4 defensive scheme.

Haynesworth reported to the team Wednesday 30 to 40 pounds lighter but was told he would work with the backups when he returned to the field.

It is not known when Haynesworth will have his next test.

FoxSports.com first reported that Haynesworth had failed his conditioning test.

I lost some respect for Shanahan today. Haynesworth came into camp and passed the two sprints. Because of that, Shanny made him run a 3rd. Had he passed that, he would have made him run a 4th. If you feel he's taking too much time say "Run it now" and he better -- but this was just an ego trip. Albert Haynesworth had no chance to pass this conditioning test regardless of what kind of condition he's in -- bush league move.

I have to think what Haynesworth has done this entire offseason if more of a bush league move...

Maybe Haynesworth will come out more determined and focused tomorrow and actually shit his pants. This will probably be the first time shitting of the pants is equated to a good thing.

Haynesworth did not act admirably during the offseason. At first, I was on his side. The trainers at Redskins park last year were terrible. I understand wanting to do your own thing to get into shape. Asking for the trade after a 21M pay day is ridiculous.

People are acting like a DT should have to run 3 300yard sprints. That's 9 football fields. Shanny said two because he didnt think Albert would ever finish them. When he did he found an excuse to fail him. Be the bigger man, bury the hatchet, and help a stud player assimilate into the team. Making him start with the 2nd string is enough -- he's obviously in shape -- start building a team instead of tearing one apart.

The practice of most NFL coaches to air the teams laundry and try to embarrass players in the press has to stop. Keep personnel issues in house.
It is funny how players get fined or suspended or called malcontents if the roles were reversed. Shanahan pulled a bush league move today. Head coach is an authority and should not sink down to level of morons.
