We won't be cutting any outfielders.

Also...stop saying vanilla.

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

I think the explosiveness in the passing game is the breath of fresh air we as Redskins fans have not see in so long.

Another big difference in the offense is not seeing three and outs. We will be able to get better field position just by getting the ball moved 10-20 yards further dwonfield before we punt.

This game we did get gashed a couple of times in the running game but as I watch it now it seems as though that once the D settled into the game a little we are pretty strong.

OR IT WAS THIS:
Once the big man AH got on the field with the first team the run D is much improved. As much as we all want to bash him for all the crap he has done this offseason there is no doubt that this Dline is much more effective with him out there. MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE. He is very disruptive and is allowing other guys on the D to make plays and be just as disruptive.

Watching the Reair of the game right now on NFL Network.

BTW DHall has a chance to league the league in interceptions this year.

I'm not sure you can make that assumption.
Our 3-4 was getting slashed by the run....until....they put 4 or 5 on the line after a quarter or so....did this correspond with Haynesworth playing more...a bit...but I saw a few time Haynesworth single teamed successfully...yes...he penetrated a few times too...and that is good...but he certainly did not look dominant.

What I think is the key is if Haslett learns from this game and plays 4-5 on the line when playing the run. I also noticed a couple linemen from last year that now play LB...when they lined up at end on the line...they tore it up.
Pretty simple...these pass rushers are used to having their hands in the dirt.
I am pretty sure we have yet to establish a rush from the olb position while standing up....this transition is going to take a long time....I hope Haslett doesn't rush it because when we play a scheme close to last year....we do a solid job against the run.

Joey Galloway had a nice game last night, with Grossman targeting him to move the chains. A pleasant surprise as others have said.

Smoot maybe you could run a poll on this question:

Who would you prefer to be your back up Jason Campbell or Rex Grossman?

BTW our second team defense played the end of the first half against the Jets Offensive ones and looked damn good.

Trent Williams is playing very well. He is an aggresive SOB and dealt with some good rushes all night, pushing jets defenders right by the QB and out the play.

Agree with GM on that one.

As far as the Roster goes, I think a guy who really proved himself to be valuable last night was Anthony Armstrong, he played well on teams and also made some nice plays in the passing game.

If this kid does not make it, he will be the next Marcus Mason or Marko Mitchell, hall I guess we could even add Colt the Goat to that as well.

The thing I liked the most about this game was the adjustments we made from the last game, that showed to me that we have the right people in charge we never did that with zorny we never made adjustments. If someone keeps on punching you in the face and you know what he's going to do eventually you block the punch we never did.

NYC- That comment you made right there about not making adjustments is the difference between a good coach that can win and sustain a career as a head coach in the NFL and a guy who gets one HC job and doesn't either win or get another job as a professional HC.

Thanks, Artin07 that's why I think we will be so competitive this year adjustments I'm so excited for this season to begin.

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

SkinsnUt..

That may be a better observation. Did you see Carter and Rak lined up on the left side of the line standing up on a couple of plays? Both came of the edge at once and Rak got a close and pressured the QB at least once.

I agree with the point that it was probably more of Haslett adjusting his scheme a little bit..

AH on the end did cause havoc on a couple of plays well.
