Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Posted at 3:26 PM ET, 09/ 4/2010
Brandon Banks, Devin Thomas make the cut As more names continued to creep out as to which players did not crack the Redskins' 53-man roster, the news might stand more with some of the players who did make the team. Undrafted free agent wide receiver Brandon Banks made the final roster, a league source confirmed. The Free Lance-Star and 106.7 The Fan originally reported that the undersized returner had made the team, proving that Banks's speed and big-play ability outweighed the risks of some of the shaky moments he had in the preseason. Banks returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown in the Redskins' preseason opener but also fumbled three times, losing one. In the finale on Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals, Banks returned the opening kickoff 40 yards but later fumbled a punt. He recovered the fumble. Third-year wide receiver Devin Thomas also made the roster. In a text message to a Post reporter, Thomas wrote, "I'm good." Rookie G/C Erik Cook was released, according to a league source, but has also been targeted as a practice-squad candidate should he clear waivers. Darrel Young, who originally signed with the Redskins in 2009 as a linebacker, has made the team as a fullback, according to 106.7 The Fan, which also reported that rookie safety Anderson Russell was released but could join the practice squad.
