Austin goes over the middle too much to be a pass-catching "RB"

Thats exactly where I would expect that type of player to go. In fact it doesn't matter if it's left, middle, or right. So long as they're used on short routes where they're expected to make something happen after the catch. Come to think of it, Devin Thomas has the potential to fill a roll similar to that. Basically the premise is that they're used on routes that you could consider "high risk handoffs." Drags, curls, flats, quick in, quick out, and slants are the type of routes I would use for this type of player.

You've got to find away to get DT in the game at WR.

Yes Thomas should have been our 2 or 3 last night. AA and Joey didn't do anything, we also need to find Fred Davis, I'm sure shanny will find ways to get him involved

It's plain to see that offenses in the NFL have evolved. Outside of teams with absolute beasts at running back like Minnesota with Peterson, and Tennessee with Chris Johnson, the running game has become more of a complement to an offense rather than its primary feature.

On a side note, from what we saw last night, this thread is looking "stupid" right about now. Though I will say McNabb obviously needs more time than he's had to get on the same page with some of these other guys.

I second that Beem. Armstrong did nothing to impress me last night and DT was only our return man. He did a very nice job at that, but we need him at WR. Where was Banks? We needed to keep Austin on the active roster. Other than Moss, our WR corp was non existent.

I have to offer a slight edit to my post -- on those two fade patterns to Armstrong in the endzone, McNabb put the ball right in his hands both times.

In preseason, Armstrong probably would have made those catches.

Our lack of a threat opposite Moss was as glaring last night as any other single problem from the game.

Very true. We've got a new qb who is a proven vet, and he's not finding anybody other than Cooley & Moss. It felt like the offense was no different than it's been the past 5 years, except that I felt confident in the leadership of shanny & Mcnabb.

We need DT to step up & earn some playing time. Unless we make a trade, he's our only hope. Maybe the Pats will offer up R. MOss for Haynesworth?

Except that Moss was wide open sometimes, so at least someone was respected by the Dallas D. Sure, Kyle knows how to design the plays, but they wouldn't work without some sort of help.

Armstrong had a nice pre season but let's not forget that he's a journeymen. Galloway is 38 and there is a reason he's bounced around the last few years. And Williams didn't even play last year. No shocker they were all quiet last night. They need to get DT in the mix.

Good points. Also, Armstrong had no business getting two endzone fade passes thrown his way. You need a tall receiver in order for that work, although that first pass was all on him messing it up.

We still need some wideouts.... we kinda stunk last nigt.

Where was Freddy D BTW, I saw him in the game but he was not targeted very often.

We may be wasting his talent behind Cooley

My thought exactly. As long as we have invisible WR's we should be getting Cooley and Davis on the field and catching balls at the same time. I'm not sure why that didn't happen last night.

Word. It's a glaring "mystery." Davis is nearly as agile as a WR and arguably has better hands than any (WR) on the roster. Throw him in the slot and Cooley at TE.

I agree w/ those who think Thomas should get his reps out there. He's still got the most potential of any WR on the roster. Maybe the Shanny's are working him in easy, which would make sense considering it's the elephant in the room (how much pressure/expectation there is for him).
