Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!
Quote:
I hope you are alone in thinking that the referees determined the outcome of the Rams/Skins game last weekend - - - because if that thinking prevails in the upper echelons of "Redskins Park" the team is doomed to chasing just one more player who needs to get paid and who will then put the Skins over the top and into the Super Bowl. Other than "The Incredible Hulk", I am not sure who that single player might be. And for the record, "The Incredible Hulk" has the same "real world football skills" as Chad Rinehart - - who LOADS of folks here were convinced was a star in the making if only the coaches would let him get on the field. Reality Bites: Rinehart can't play! The Redskins need major roster changes in order to become a playoff contender. However, roster changes for the sake of roster changes to let marginal players on the field for the rest of 2010 or even 2011 makes little sense - - unless you are 100% certain that this iteration of Skins management will not whiff on any of the high draft picks it would gather by that on-field losing strategy this year and next.. If they can do that, they will be the first NFL organixation to achieve that goal in the history of the league. Barring good fortune so great that it is less than 1% likely to happen, the Redskins need at least two more solid draft classes (from rounds 1 THRU rround 7) to become a playoff "playah". It may even take 3 such fortuitous drafts. Think about this for a moment... Most people here would fall all over themselves to declare that at least 4 of the defensive starters this year are "beasts". Sorry, the reality is that the defense has ONE certifiable star - - still in the making - - and four better than average players. That leaves 6 defensive players on the field at any time who are average or less... Other than Trent Williams, please do not delude yourself into thinking that ANYONE on the OL in 2010 is more than a serviceable backup on any NFL team that plans on still playing in mid-January. Other than Santana Moss, who would be a nationally recognized star on a team that had a true #1 WR to allow Moss the luxury of single coverage most of the time, the Skins have zero WRs who are anything more than special-teams filler for real contending teams. And the beat goes on... It is going to take a while to overcome the talent deficiency that accumulated here in the Vinny Cerrato/Danny Boy Snyder Era of personnel oversight. If the fans get too impatient, Danny Boy may be tempted to "take charge" once again. I hope everyone here knows how that chapter in Redskins history will end... Patience folks...patience...
