Anyone else tired of 3D movies?

This isnt going to be a ranting thread, but is anyone else getting tired of 3D movies??

Its like every movie that is coming out now has to be in 3D.

I'll be honest...I loved Avatar being in 3D, it was truly amazing. Seeing it again in Resident Evil Afterlife was a nice touch, too. very well done...but now, I look on IMDB and there are all these movies coming out in 3D. And i just dont get it. Didn't we get tired of 3D like back in the 80's once?

I appreciated the nostalgia with Avatar and some of the newer horror movies, but this is bordering now on asinine. Every single frigging movie is now in 3D.....

I don't really have any interest in watching a movie that's in 3D and if I could choose whether to have 3D or not I'd go without. Same goes with the 3D TV's. I can't see myself buying one anytime in the near future, especially considering the price.

I haven't watched a 3-D movie since Jaws 3-D when I was a kid. I really have zero interest in this whole 3-D craze.

It's waaaaaaaay different than the old school 3D. It's one of those things where I don't specifically seek it out, but if they happen to be offering it for one of the movies I'm going to see, I definitely am going to be all over it.

The 3D now is far better than the 80's version, and adds a nice touch, I think it will do more as the director's and artists get more and more creative with it. Once they get it going without glasses that will be even better.

Nintendo has a Nintendo 3ds system coming out where the top screen is not touch, but is 3d without glasses. I (I mean my kids) are really excited to see how that works.

Bottom line for me, 3D is excellent, but it has to be used creatively for it to really make an impact.

Im not complaining about the quality, dont get me wrong.

I just think the movie producers are gonna kill their cash cow too early by making every single movie 3D...people will eventually tire of it, and long for the days of 2D again.

It needs to be used very sparingly, IMO

I would think the other way, as long as it's done right, eventually the prices will drop and 2D would be reserved for the home dvd versions. Once you start watching 3D consistently, the 2D version on the big screen is kinda like black and white vs color. The last Shrek, and UP both were excellent in 3d, and used the full palette of space available. Avatar really just scratched the surface of a what a true 3D movie can do.

Does anyone long for black and white TV (on a constant basis)?

Re: Anyone else tired of 3D movies?

I still maintain that 3D TV won't really catch on until they design a set that doesn't require you to wear glasses. I know Toshiba and probably some other companies are working on that so maybe we're not all that far off.

As for 3D movies, I still have yet to see one and I have little desire to. Within the last few years I've noticed that I can't really stand to watch a movie where the camera moves around too much (I'm a little worried that that might be a result of multiple concussions in my younger days) so I think 3D would make me sick.

I kind of agree there. I mean the first 3D movie I saw was Alice in Wonderland. We were just going to see it because we were with the wife's family in Florida and wanted something to do. Honestly, the 3D-ness of that movie made it worthwhile to me.

Now there are obviously movies that have lots of crap flying around just to be like "THIS IS 3DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD". But when it's done well, it's REALLY amazing.

The other thing you have to watch out for is movies that add in the 3D effects after the fact. I didn't see it but I heard Clash Of The Titans was going to be a regular flick and was filmed as such, but then they added in the effects at the last minute and they came out like crap. Luckily, I think movie studios are catching on the fact that this is a bad idea pretty quickly.

Re: Anyone else tired of 3D movies?

I havent seen a 3D movie, but I disagree and think it is the future. I read several months ago that 2 major studios had put the money up for 2000-3000 future films to be made in 3D as well as 2D. I think that type of investment shows how serious the industry is...plus home units are currently being sold...I think 3D is the next big thing, or at least it will be pushed as so

Re: Anyone else tired of 3D movies?

I finally got to see a 3D movie for the first time at my local Best Buy and I have no trouble saying that the technology doesn't live up to the hype. To me it was basically a moving magic eye picture that was cross bred with a pop-up book. On top of the tacky look the picture itself made me dizzy which given that I've already had one seizure a couple of years ago makes the 3D technology itself a no-no. Still part of me is glad that the whole 3D thing isn't that great, makes me realize that I'm not missing out on the next great thing, rather it seems to be nothing more then a fad.

I think Roger Ebert was right in that the whole 3D craze is a counter-measure against pirating, which seems to be a good idea. However I think that 3D technology is going to be one of those things that people look back on and laugh.
