I think we should keep him as a backup for next season unless someone gives up good value for him.

Um, not happening. The market for injury prone, stumble prone running backs in their 30s in pretty much nonexistent.

I agree. CP hasnt been a top flight back for a few years now. There's no point on the Skins wasting anymore time and $ on this guy.

If he does not come back then F*&% him and the too much money we paid for him. Ok I had to be the first to hate on him because you know it will come.

While Portis may be reluctant to come right out and say it, the Redskins rushing record would mean a great deal to him. I think that's the main reason why he worked so hard during the off-season knowing the mark would be within his reach, providing he could stay healthy.

Don't be surprised to see him make an effort to come back next year. Shanahan believes he still has something left, so half his battle is won.

It will be interesting to see what Shan does with the running backs next year. He could keep Williams and bring back Portis as 3rd down back or let Portis go and keep Torain and Williams and get a veteran or keep only Williams and get two new people.

Let's of options it seems.

The bold part is likely to be the scenario, I believe.. Unless we find a gem through draft or free agency, we will have same players for RB..

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR

I'm convinced that Portis will be back here next year.

He's strictly year to year at this point, but he's going to earn his way back based on his play from earlier in this season.

I think so too. Shanahan seems to think he's got quite a bit left from his comments today. If he's healthy and agrees to a deal that makes sense, I definitely think he will be back.

Quote:
With his base salary of almost $7.2 million and bonuses, Portis will be paid almost $7.7 million this season. Although it is possible Portis's career with the Redskins and in the NFL could be finished, Shanahan said he believes Portis could have productive years ahead of him.

"I don't think there's any question about it," Shanahan said. "He's got such a strong will. It all depends on does he come back a hundred percent? Does he want to come back and play? He's got that inner drive that most people don't have. He wants to compete. But obviously, he's got to get well."

Shanny isnt going to say anything negative about CP and scare off any potential takers. The Skins need to be done with this over-paid under performer and move on.

THIS ^^^^

No disrespect to anyone, but if we've learned anything from NFL coaches this year, it's that they lie and can't be trusted.

Andy Reid: "No Question about it, KEVIN KOLB will be our QB, there is no controversy".

Tom Cable: "Jason Campbell is the unquestioned starter".

It's not like Shanahan is going to say; "Well, with the money that we guaranteed Portis, we basically had to play him, because he was best friends with the owner, and the owner told me under no uncertain terms that Portis would play no matter what. I'm kind of relieved now because the RB position has been held hostage for a number of years now. I'm hoping we can finally move on".

Unless Portis agrees to a MASSSSIVE pay reduction, then there is no way he will be back.

I dont think its lying at the time they say it but circumstances change quickly and the coach has to adjust.
