I'm only fine with this approach if the O-lineman is 27 or younger. I don't want a 34 year old Olin Kreutz on the downside of his career. If we're going to give big FA money to a lineman, it should be for a guy whose best football is still ahead of him. Nick Mangold would be an excellent upgrade at C, and he will only be 27 next year.

I completely agree, but Nick Mangold is a Pro Bowl center, and you know he won't come cheap. And who's to say the Jets will release him? Just because his contract might be up doesn't mean the Jets don't want him back.
