Mike Shanahan has proven that he has a gauge on talent and can put a competitive team on the field who is close to winning games. There are glaring needs for this team without a doubt but that is true with most teams.

Yeah MS has a great guage on talent -- that's why he gave up high draft picks for DMac and Jammal Brown with the first guy being eventually benched and the second one being little more than an average RT.

The whole team got decimated by injuries and that's why we weren't able to field a very good team. But if you are seriously saying that at 6-10 we're a good team then we don't have much else to discuss. Results matter, if this exact same team went 10-6 then we could discuss how good of a team we have.

You are blaming Mike for Bruce's decision to part ways with our draft picks. Shanahan just put his foot down and said enough is enough with McNabb. As for Brown, it takes a while for a hip injury that was surgically repaired to heal. Look for Brown to be much improved next season.

Speaking of surgically repaired injuries, Kimmo should be better next season also, but I still think we need a beast at NT. If Haynesworth departs then the pressure is on to come up with his replacement, maybe Marcell Dareus out Alabama who plays inside and outside in a 34 defense.

What you are over looking is how Shanahan has played guys that show promise and when he puts them with better players will only make them look better. I am not looking through rose colored glasses, not at all. This team is going through a change for the better. Becoming hard nosed on defense and with Rex, or someone as quick as he is with his reads, will only make this team more exciting and ready to challenge the east.

We are not too far away.

I believe Bruce Allen's role is a figurehead GM. You can believe otherwise, but aside from the failed or apparently failed Tampa retreads(Bidwell and Galloway), this team seems to be Shanahan-built, including the trade for McNabb.

Come back to reality! Why would Dan Snyder hire a figure head for a GM? He had that with Vinny!

Figurehead for Shanahan, not Snyder, first of all. Let Shanahan control everything in fact, while Allen holds the title of the big man. Even if Shanahan is not totally calling all of the GM's shots, it's not like coaches haven't been able to push GMs for a certain player; Gibbs pushed for Desmond Howard, and Casserly accommodated to Gibbs.

Allen does the money/contracts while he lets the HC draw up the draft board, etc. Gruden did the real picking in Tampa, and he wasn't even in the FO per se. The contracts we gave out this offseason are indeed much shrewder and lets us off the hook easily if they stunk it up. No Brandon Lloyd silliness, which was a trademark of the past regime.

Besides, even if we want to appeal to history and interpret history such that Allen was calling the shots in Tampa in terms of personnel, history says that Allen keeps picks as well, since Tampa almost always had a full load of them.

So, in conclusion, just throwing away draft picks willy-nilly seems out of character for either Shanahan or Allen, for the most part. Neither of them made trades for an old vet starting QB either.

He had 9 years of said experience before we hired him. He thought McNabb had what he wanted out of a QB: big arm, mobility to extend plays, and was a gamer. Afterwards, of course, buyers' remorse surely set in and he was dissatisfied with McNabb.

Not only that, some of the players brought seem to be perfect Shanahan "fits". Grossman, Torain, Beck, Trent Williams, Armstrong, Lichtensteiger all easily bear the stamp of "Shanahan approved" players because they fit what he wants on offense.

Getting rid of Jason Campbell was also Shanahan-driven since he himself said he was going to watch every snap of his career to determine if JC had what he wanted. If he had that much power to get rid of JC, pick up Grossman, pick up Beck, why the hell is he suddenly doesn't have any power with regards to McNabb?

We also went to a 3-4 because Shanahan believed that it was the better scheme for us long term. He was the one who talked with Haslett when they were both out of the NFL. We grabbed hopeful candidates that would help make it work, such as Carriker and Kemo. Once again, it's either Allen being very accommodating or Shanahan is actually calling [most of] the shots.

Shanahan is the team president, higher on the totem pole than Allen.

Allen works for Shanahan. Shanahan calls the shots with personnel.
