I thought his numbers would definitely cross the 50% threshold, but not this soon. I was thinking more like the Spring.

Republicans shouldn't be too concerned with the shift in sentiment as these things tend to ebb and flow. There is a lot of politics left between now and 2012 and President Obama is in a much stronger position than he was, say, three months ago. Republicans would do well not to underestimate the president right now, people still personally like him and I hope he hits out the park on Tuesday. The longer they drag out this repeal Obamacare BS, I think they'll only hurt themselves in the future.
