“I’m a big football fan, but I also think for an industry that is making $9 billion a year in revenue, they can figure out how to divide it up in a sensible way and be true to their fans who are the ones who, obviously, allow for all of the money that they are making,” the President continued. “My expectation and hope is that they will resolve it without me intervening, because it turns out I have got a lot of other stuff to do.”

Read it, pretty useless though.

Still more on the owners side, (basically they took a bad deal rather than fight it tooth and nail in 2006, and I give them a few small kudos on that). Of course in the end, it's more "not the players side"(this batch of players has made oodles more than Clark, Monk, Green ever could have imagined. They could back off a step and still be handsomely paid for their gifts and talents) then pro-owners. They both need to stop and get a deal done, and clearly neither side is doing that today.

Peter King tweeted earlier that nothing happens with FA until a new CBA is signed. So unless a deal is reached (which obviously isn't happening today) FA is still off.

I believe that there is one exception to this: if the union decertifies, then the owners may unilaterally impose their own terms of employment, terms which could include free agency. Of course, even in this case, there may be no free agency because the owners may not allow it in their ad hoc rules or the owners may respond to decertification with a lockout. And even if the owners allow free agency, the players may refuse to sign out of solidarity with the inevitable lawsuits from players. So free agency in this scenario is unlikely but it could happen.

Andrew Brandt just tweeted, and I think he is right, that for the next 10 minutes the NFLPA has more leverage than they have ever had. Let's see if they use it wisely.
