Still more on the owners side, (basically they took a bad deal rather than fight it tooth and nail in 2006, and I give them a few small kudos on that). Of course in the end, it's more "not the players side"(this batch of players has made oodles more than Clark, Monk, Green ever could have imagined. They could back off a step and still be handsomely paid for their gifts and talents) then pro-owners. They both need to stop and get a deal done, and clearly neither side is doing that today. |

Re: Ongoing CBA discussions
So is there going to be free agency regardless of what happens today/tonight?

Re: Ongoing CBA discussions
I believe that there is one exception to this: if the union decertifies, then the owners may unilaterally impose their own terms of employment, terms which could include free agency. Of course, even in this case, there may be no free agency because the owners may not allow it in their ad hoc rules or the owners may respond to decertification with a lockout. And even if the owners allow free agency, the players may refuse to sign out of solidarity with the inevitable lawsuits from players. So free agency in this scenario is unlikely but it could happen.

Re: Ongoing CBA discussions
Andrew Brandt just tweeted, and I think he is right, that for the next 10 minutes the NFLPA has more leverage than they have ever had. Let's see if they use it wisely.

Re: Ongoing CBA discussions
Cindy Boren from the Post is reporting on Twitter that there's a 24-hour extension:
"Cindy Boren There's a 24-hour extension on NFL/NFLPA talks, via multiple sources."
