Stand up, Stand up. I went to Einstein back in the early-mid 80s. Totally different from what the kids deal with today, there was some bullying but not real widespread. There were fights, but just one on one fist-fights for the most part. None of this jump people in a 10 on 1 attack and send them to the hospital crap that goes on today. Had this happened back then, it would've been a "you got what you deserved" reaction for the bully from the school admin IMO. And that would've been the end of it.
All that being said, today the bullying, drugs, etc. goes on in EVERY public school "nice" or not. Unfortunately, moving to a "nice" public school area is no protection for your kids.
