Re: ILB Robert McCune
I saw it Ramseyfan. He was HUGE. And he was the fastest LB at the combine. I think that his military history is a major plus. This just proves that he is a hard worker and he has that mentality and high motor.
Cant wait to see him replace in the middle killing Cowboys. |

Re: ILB Robert McCune
I'm really liking this pick. Sounds like a replacement for Barrow / Pierce. Gregg Williams should be able to mold/groom him.

Re: ILB Robert McCune
comments from Gibbs:
On selecting Louisville linebacker Robert McCune: “We went down to Louisville to work everybody out down there and Robert is a little bit different in that he has served overseas. He is a service guy. He is older because of that, he is 26 years old. We really like him from the standpoint that obviously a spot on our football team where somebody could make our team is middle linebacker. When you talk to him this guy is all service, it is yes sir and no sir. It is impressive from that stand point. He has also been as a sophomore the special teams play of the year at Louisville. He led the team in tackles last year. We think we have someone there that is a real candidate to make our football teams in a lot of ways.” On what position he would play: “For us and our football team middle linebacker is where we are going to start him. He is extremely fast and really well built. He is 6-0 and 245 lbs and is a 4.5 guy. He is probably the most impressive person I may have ever seen just standing there.” On if age was a factor at all in so many teams passing on him: “I think a lot of people probably backed off of him because of age. He is starting his career off at 26. He is somebody we felt that is really a value. I really trust Dale’s (Lindsey) judgment on linebackers. He had him much higher in the draft and we thought he was going to go much higher. I feel real good about that.” On when they made the trade for the 5th round pick if this is who was on their radar: “We actually had four guys there that we were thinking in this round.” |

And he did the second most reps of 225. He had 34 and Tyjuan Hagler from Cincinnati had one more. By the way the Colts drafted him. |

Re: ILB Robert McCune
I'm glad we took a MLB incase things fall through with Lemar Marshall; and just to have anohter guy to sub in and out of there. Outside of Carlos Rogers, this is the pick that made the most sense to me as well.

Re: ILB Robert McCune
I don't have a link to any article, but here's a bit more information.
McCune served three years in the Army; serving in Korea and Kuwait. He's knicknamed "The Hammer" because he delivered so many punishing hits in college. He ran track in college (explaining his extremely fast 40-time). He was his school's (Louisville) powerlifting champion two years in a row. He is a VERY old junior in college and due to his age, he came out of college "early." Many scouts feel he has all the tools to be a monster, but he's raw. If he's coached up right, we're talking about a stud interior linebacker. If he doesn't develop, he'll fall flat on his face. My guess is the guy will make the team, contribute on special teams and pass-rushing downs, and become a more regular contributor within two years (when he's 28). |

Re: ILB Robert McCune
I don't know anything about this guy, but I like the pick from what I've read. Luckily he'll be coming into the league with plenty of maturity, he could be a great team leader eventually, and he seems to have the raw talent.
The only thing that kind of concerns me is he's already 26. Typically, how do older players coming in do? How is their longevity? Normally longer/the same than a player that comes in at 21/22?

Re: ILB Robert McCune
Broughton played HB in college but will more then likely be a FB short yardage back

Re: ILB Robert McCune
At 26 years old... this guy better not take too long to develop. Otherwise he may not have much of a career.

Re: ILB Robert McCune
The thing I like (and I'm sure Gibbs does as well) is that with a military background, McCune is used to following instruction explicitly, every time. I expect him to push for serious minutes, and perhaps get some starts. Gibbs loves a player who practices well, and this guy's background suggests he'll do just that.
