Not knowing if they had a way out or not, they de-boarded anyway and carried out the mission to kill OBL. Then the back-up helo arrived and they boarded with his body and tons of intel they took from the compound.

Also, the president didn't want to bomb the compound with missle strikes because he wanted proof that OBL was dead and not some mangled, unidentifiable body.

This all sounds like a screenplay.

Man this is scary. It eerily sounds like the botched rescue operation in Iran during the hostage crisis there in the last 70s. Good thing things worked out well for our guys.
