Gibbs: "We had a really good draft!"

Let's put a couple of issues to bed here.

#1, the current group of Skins WRs are not Canton-bound nor are they one of the best corps in the league. Are they a group with some potential? Sure. Let's leave it at that.

#2, If a player isn't Canton-bound, does that mean they are complete scrubs? Definitely not. Show me any NFL roster and I'll show you a large majority of that roster that is NOT Canton-bound.

#3, I know we are all draft and NFL personnel gurus , but can we at least give this current draft crop a year before they are ultimately judged? Let's at least give these guys a shot to get on the field. Last year we made some questionable acquisitions in a lot of people's eyes (Griffin, Springs) and they ended up playing at a Pro Bowl level.

Overall we made some nice personnel moves last year, let's give this current group a chance to at least hit the field. That's all I ask.

I know we all play alot of Madden and we know what to look for, but for now maybe we should give the benefit of the doubt to this staff who does this for a full-time job and have been studying these players hours upon hours a day for the last few months.

Just like you were saying Matty, the Griffin and Springs signings were questionable, and even though I wasn't on the board at the time, my current circle of friends was like "WTF, I can't believe we are signing MORE has-beens." Gibbs helped make those signings happen and it seems as though the vast majority of them have panned out. No one could predict Barrow's knee would do what it did.

I too, questioned the QB move, but it has been brought up in many posts how Gibbs is building the franchise and not just trying to "win now". I definitely agree before we have complete flipouts (offiss, you are freaking out dude), we trust in judgement even if it IS questionable. I too, would have liked Williams, but it seems there is a rhyme and a reason to it all when all the highly intelligent minds here have posted good arguments for it.

But theres a reason, I am ususally, USUALLY, right on the money with my talent evaluation.

Now here's something you should know, Ramsey is a borderline genious, Brunell is a long time vet and pro bowler, and neither could run Gibbs offense. Now that is going to mean 1 of 2 things, either Gibbs offense was horrible regardless of who was behind center, or Brunell and Ramsey are just to dumb to grasp it, and may need another year of work to understand and execute it.

With that being said how long do you think it will take the wonderlik wonder to learn this system from the bench? Remember this is the day of salary cap and you can't keep a #1 on the bench for 3 to 4 years, and as I said in another post before we drafted him, he will be a long term waste of time and money, I hope everyone now understands that Brunell is our primary backup, PERIOD! There is no way this kid is getting on the field [legitamitly] for at least 2 years, at least!

Sorry if I am flipping out, but I get worked up when a team I have rooted for my whole life does something this stupid that I know will hold us back. Just like last year when I said no Brunell, he's the last QB I want in Gibbs pocket passing offense, and flipped when we gave up a pick and 43 mil, guess who was right? OFFISS, not Gibbs!

Has anyone heard 1 annalist, just 1, say what a great pick this was? Or we recieved great or even decent value for what we gave up? ANYONE?

I think, when history judges this draft, one of the best five players in it will be Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell, who went to Washington at No. 24. Here's the difference. When Gibbs had all those great QBs - who was picking in the draft. hint: It wasn't Gibbs.

Correction: It wasn't ONLY Gibbs. Don't think Gibbs didn't have a say so in who he wanted on the team. Maybe not as much in the early years, but after he had a couple Super Bowl appearances under his belt, to assume he never had a say so would be naive.

Exactly.

I think there's this misconception that Beathard was 100% in charge of personnel, that's just not true. Gibbs has always had a say in personnel decisions.

Just add to that, I don't think Beathard had anything to do with developing the QBs after they were drafted. That was all Gibbs and the coaching staff. So if we trusted Gibbs to develop a guy like Mark Rypien to give us at least one season of glory then why not Campbell

but don't get me wrong, I get the argument that for what we gave up Campbell better give us more than one great season

Actually I have heard a few analysts saying this was a great move. Not that I agree with it, but I'm OK with it.

Also, I am trusting the Skins to win the Super Bowl so the #1 pick for the Broncos next year won't mean shit.

Campbell is a great player, I think he's good. However, when you invest in a young talented QB, it's not a need. I remember how everyone told me how good a QB controversey would be for the team last year. Let's just learn our lesson and let Ramsey try to play without someone riding his ass.
