Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
You guys are gonna hate me...
Remember a few years ago when I speculated a Brett Favre return? And it happened? 1 year Redskins QB? I'd buy his jersey. Bring back the football!

This is not based on any facts, just my assumptions, but the timing all this last year was very convenient. As much as BF wants to come back, he is not coming back. No way. |

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Wonder if Brett is going to Santana's party.
2 years ago, I'd say sure...bring Brett in. His last season was ugly though. It's clear that he is done now. He may have the heart to play and that had carried him through most of his career, but age and injuries finally took enough away from his abilities that no amount of heart can lead him to success any more. Plus, the "other" stuff he's involved in too.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
According to this report, Peyton Manning is looking to wriggle his way onto the open market.
Long way to go before we go lending credence to this, but if this were to happen, drop everything and sign him for a gajillion dollars. Colts QB Peyton Manning reportedly wants to become unrestricted free agent immediately - NFL - Sporting News

Even Peyton Manning could not save this offense this year, not enough weapons and a porous line.

I agree but can you imagine how badly the Colts would be screwed if he left.
There would be rioting in the streets of Indy.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
I agree, that move would be out of character for him. And I can think of one big reason this story could have been invented and leaked to the media. With Manning as part of the antitrust suit against the NFL, he may have the legal standing to hold up the CBA. So somebody (not Peyton) probably started this rumor on purpose to put last minute pressure on the owners.
I doubt that would accomplish much, just as I doubt there's any credence to it. But I could definitely see either side resorting to some funny tactics now that we're at 11:59 pm in the negotiating process.

Quote:
From the article: NFL must satisfy Tom Brady antitrust plaintiffs to seal deal - ESPN "If any of the plaintiffs were unhappy with settlement terms, they could object and opt out of the class action. That would not derail a settlement and would not, in itself, stop a new collective bargaining agreement. But both the NFL owners and players have been working on a "global solution" that would include settling all legal issues surrounding their labor battle. And if the antitrust case is not settled, that could be a deal-breaker. According to ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack, if any of the named plaintiffs opt out, the antitrust suit would remain alive in federal court."

His ego is too big for the skins to ever consider even if he became a freeagent. Which he won't.

You're just saying that b/c you wouldn't even know what to do with yourself if we signed Peyton Manning. Hell, I'd sh!t my pants.
