He's supposed to say he's not confident at all and is considering faking an injury so he doesn't have to play with such mediocre talent, and also that it won't matter if he plays anyways since the team is destined to land a top 3 pick, which will be used on a new quarterback, thus making him irrelevant. He's also supposed to acknowledge that the media is always right in their predictions and the season has already been doomed to failure even though a single game hasn't even been played.

If he had just stuck with that script everything would've been fine. Optimism isn't allowed when you're universally acknowledged as a bad team.
