I didn't mean top 10 safety, I meant a top 10 pick. Safeties get paid slightly less than most position on aveverage, but so do tight ends. ST got robbed on his contract.

No doubt about that. I still think he's a top 10 safety though. I don't think we need to pay for his agent's mistakes though.

I think opening the check book now sends a dangerous message. I don't think that NOT paying him now will mean that we won't pay him when his contract expires. Samuels got paid, I think Taylor will too.

I agree, what would stop another player who had a breakout season from saying, "I want more money!"?

I don't know. He doesn't talk to the press that much and hasn't made any comments. I think if the Eagles don't bow to TO, the Redskins won't bow to Taylor.

They're going to ask for more money anyways. Was it dangerous to give Portis a new deal? A holdout from Denver because of his low rookie salary, which is why we got him. Or how about LaVar getting the highest LB contract in the NFL and wanting another 6.5 mil. Oh, Oh! Santana Moss getting a pretty hefty extention! Just remember - Chris Samuels could have said no to restructure and screwed up our cap royally, yes he got a good deal with it, but all it takes is someone who's mad with the organization and we're in trouble.

Players hold out for cash, it's their only bargaining chip. I'm sure some of you guys are part of a union, ever been unhappy with wages? Let me know what happens.

Is he still making more money than I hope to make in my lifetime? Yes. Comparably to other people drafted around him, no.

I'd still like to see some numbers comparing Taylor's contract with other top safeties in the league. That's the more relevant comparison if Taylor is claiming he is underpaid. You don't see Chris Cooley saying, "hey, did you see what that Peyton Manning guy just got? I feel like I'm getting the shaft." Yes, Taylor was drafted in the top 10, but he's a safety. Safeties don't get QB, WR, RB, TE pay. They just don't. Of course he's getting less than Winslow (and others drafted around him), any safety in the history of the league would be.

I just wish we had some numbers to back up the assumptions flying around that Taylor got screwed. I tried finding them, and came up almost empty. I know Taylor is getting paid more than Ed Reed and Roy Williams, but I guess that's not enough.

And as for pissing him off? F- Him. If he's the type of player to sign a contract and then not want to play under it less than 365 days later (Hello, can you say second coming of T.O.?), and if he's the type of player who wants to blame the world for all of his problems (i.e. if his agent dropped the ball and didn't get every dollar out of the Skins that he could have), then I'm not so sure I want him as a long term Skin. Nobody is irreplaceable. The franchise won't fall to pieces if Taylor plays out his contract and then leaves pissed of at the skins. I just don't understand the desire to cater to this second-year player.

The Skins need to treat this situation the same way the Eagles are treating the TO situation. If ST wants to show up as his contract states then that's great. If he wants to pull a power play and sit out, good luck because the team wont crumble without him.

The skins need to take a hard line with these guys but unfortunately the have set a bad presedent in the past and moss' new deal doesent help. It's only a matter of time before the skins pay ST.

The sad part is that all this $ does not seem to build any loyality or goodwill between the players and the organization.

I agree. I really feel like Rosenhaus it to blame in all of this. Just like we heard from Santana Moss, they are just following their agent's advice. Again, I'll repeat myself when I say we send a dangerous message if we restructure Taylor's contract already. Not only can he NOT do anything until August 1st, we are also letting Rosenhaus be able to put more and more pressure on the teams of anyone he represents. So basically, Rosenhaus represents a LOT of people and he would think he could expect that from the Redskins for any player they draft/sign that works with them.
