They'll support whoever the starter is. Until a change is officially made, they're just backing up their guy.

I think you're making a big deal out of nothing. What do you want Santana to say? That they should bench a teammate of his? That'd be worse. He stood by his QB. Said every player has bad games. Just like if he had 5 drops, Rex wouldn't say "well, time to sit his ass and activate Hankerson"

Yeah I don't think it splits the locker room. Once the decision is made, I'm sure the players will support Shanny's decision. Hard to stand up for the way Rex has played. He's terrible and that really isn't up for debate right now.
