QUESTION: If you wanted the two QB's to have an even competition, why would you give one of them a Whole game, most of which was with the starters, and then give the other one, a whole game with none of the starters?

What do you mean he was all about Beck in the preseason? And things got screwed up for Beck when he got hurt before the first preseason game. Sucks for him, but that's not Shanahan's fault.
