So, Mike Shanahan is not only racist against black people, he's also an anti-Semite. Tar and feather him!!!!

Re: John Beck Era Begins

Had to be done.

What I like about this move is not that Beck is going to be the next coming of Theisman or even Dilfer, but it's that Shanahan made the correct call. Imagine the shit storm if he had backed Rex for another week? This is what a decently run organization does. My feeling is that back in the Vinny/Zorn days, something bizzare would have happened at this point. We trade for Mark Brunnell. We get Randel-el as a QB. Etc. Something to make us look even worse than we are with Rex and his 4 ints.

As for the state of the QB position for the skins, my feeling has always been that this year's QBs are place-holders. Do you really think Shanny believes that Rex or Becks is going to lead us to the superbowl? Trust me. He does not, barring a miraculous transformation of Becks into Brees. This year is about building, about finding the right blue-collar guys to take you forward. And it's about putting a system in place on offense and defense. Once we do that, we can fill the slots we need. We were not in a good position to get the QB of the future last year. It will happen next year, unless we revert to Vinny-Zorn style craziness (not impossible, given our history under Danny).

Much more worrisome to me is the loss of 2 starting OL and Cooly--as it applies to the run game. Shanny is all about the run. If we can't run the ball, it doesn't matter all that much who is QB. To think that losing Kory L would be the big blow this year? Whod a thunk it?

Re: John Beck Era Begins

The thing that got me in the preseason was Beck staring down receivers. I'm sure that there were a lot of plays designed to specifically target some wideouts but some of those over the middle passes wouldn't cut it in the regular season.

anyways hope he does well for us.. if not we were looking at mediocre to a bit above it anyways

This team is in the danger-zone right now...

Blessed is he who, in the name of intelligence and good QB play, shepherds the weakened team through the valley of darkness, for he is truly the fan's keeper and the finder of lost wins.

God help us!

Re: John Beck Era Begins

if he cuts down on the turnovers alone it increases our chances exponentially. rex was good at moving us down the field but we often stalled in the red zone, and he turned the ball over too much. i am hopeful for beck

Bottom line. As Rex himself said, he had a chance to prove there was no doubt he should be the starter and didn't. He has been in the league longer than Beck. More experience, more knowledge of Kyle's system. This was his chance and he didn't take advantage. Now let's see if Beck does

What will make things really interesting in Skins QB-land is if Beck ends up posting better numbers than Rex but the team goes 1-4.

As always the individual cog should be evaluated. I understand why a QB should get more leash before a benching due to the complexity of the position and the time and reps needed to implement a game plan but still. If Beck is playing well while the defense suddenly stops pulling it's weight then you don't punish Beck. That would have been like the Saints benching Brees during his record setting season where they went 7-9 due to poor defense (The year before they won the Super Bowl no less).

Of course you dont bench a QB for bad defensive play but if Beck has better numbers but the O still struggles to score points it will be interesting to see what happens. I think now that the change has been made, unless Beck is really terrible, the Skins have to stick with him for the rest of the year.

and your concerns are mine. If the team started out with Beck and he was horrible, then bringing in Grossman, who knew the offense better would make sense. Starting with Grossman and now switching to Beck after only 5 games says you don't have faith in Grossman, which I know the lot of you don't, BUT..... what happens if Beck plays horribly? Where do we go then? Back to Grossman? lol. Arrington brought this very topic up today on their show.

I truly hope Beck comes in and plays well, moves the ball well, and scores more points per game, because if he comes in and everyone realizes it's not the QB play and that it's more his cast around him then this is going to be a huge let down and a wash for the season. Because everyone has already written Grossman off as ever taking this team into the playoffs and if Beck plays just as bad or worse......

Re: John Beck Era Begins

Rex has had his chance and he played poor the last 3 weeks, if we played someone other than STL we would be 2-3 right now, he practically begged them to beat us

More likely he will try to toss it to Kyle and it will be intercepted.

To bad Los isn't here. That would have made for a great setup to continue this joke.
