Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
Thank goodness he won a Super Bowl in St. Louis. I'd hate to think of a player like Fletch going his whole career without a ring.

Ditto. I didn't think a whole lot of our signing an over 30 MLB at the time, but Fletch has proven to be an absolute gem. He's arguably our best defensive leader on the field since Sam Huff came back to play for Lombardi.

We HAVE to draft a breakout offensive player next year. We're just boring on that side of the ball. Who was the last Redskin Drafted skilled player we have had that went to numerous pro bowls? Someone Colin Cowherd can develop an awkward man crush on and talk about for 2 hours a day like he does Romo or Brady. I feel like it's been a while. It's depressing.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
I think the good OL play may just be due to the carolinia D not being the best at pass rushing. If they play decentlly like that against NYG or PHI (WITH trent cole) I'd feel much better about their use of roster spots

If we lose this week then I'll start to think 6 wins again is possible

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
The way the Skins have played the last two weeks, 6 wins aint happening, every team in our division right now is playing better than the skins. 2 Qb's is like the old saying when you have two people doing the same job this means you have nobody doing the job.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
I would have included Orakpo in the smack down, and I'm a huge fan. How many times does he have to lose containment on the edge before Haslett sits him on run downs? Plus, the one time he had a completely blind kill shot on Cam, he made no effort to swipe at the ball with his right hand. That would have been a fumble if D. Ware or Umenyiora had the same opportunity.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
I agree w/about all of sportscurmudgeon's post (#203) & I too have my concerns w/Kyle. But in this last game I think he called a pretty smart game. We came out running, had success & made Carolina respect the run game. In the 2nd half they adjusted & stopped the run game largely, plus we got behind. He called plays that Beck ran well, e.g. the bootlegs. Beck was effective & really didn't make any grave errors in the 2nd half until that int. when he & Hank "weren't on the same page."
So maybe we saw an adjustment from Kyle that no one really appreciates because we lost? The story was the D, too many guys had really poor games. Rak & Landry in particular. Landry looked terrible in fact. I think the Panthers showed the rest of the league how to play him in the run game; send a big WR right at him. He really sucked at shedding blocks on sunday, a few times I saw him diving into the blockers legs, taking himself out of the play. |

Also I hate our use of the shotgun,we only use it on 3rd and long plays when the defense knows were going to pass and we suck at picking up the blitz.I'd rather have the QB in a rollout then shotgun to keep the defense somewhat honest. I would like to see a drive consisting of all shotgun, not just 3rd down.Do it on first and mix a draw or screen with it

Do I wish he used Roy Helu a bit more effectively, and do I wish he at least gave the appearance a bit more? Sure. But seems like only a couple of years ago people here were saying how we haven't adapted with the times, and we're such an archane conservative offense that never takes shots.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)
You never heard of The Artist Formerly Known As Smootsmack? Once upon a time, Fred Smoot left our humble little town to go have a boat party in Minnesota, and while he was gone, our humble _______ in command changed his name to reflect that.
Edit: See what I did there?
