Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State

It's looking more and more likely that Paterno could end up in jail....it certainly doesn't sound good for him.

It is sounding more and more like not only did he know of the sex crimes, he attempted to cover them up by helping put a retirement package together for Jerry Sandusky back when he stepped down....

Very very scary to the extent of just how big this cover up is. My next door neighbor graduated from Penn State in the 1980's. Talking to him he is very educated, the university is in grave danger. Their Football Program is going to be toast very soon and absolute worst case scenario the university itself implodes. The U.S. Department of Education is involved now, they are going to lose federal funding, grants, all that crap. Accredidation may be taken away, it will be a very, very long time before Penn State gets back to that "big school" status.

The cover up could have involved many, many more people than what we are being told. More people are expected to either resign or be fired in the coming days.

I have a feeling i'm seeing the scandal of my lifetime here, maybe the biggest sex scandal in American History, especially now in the light of news that Sandusky and The Second Mile foundation was pimping out those kids for money..... Un real...

If Chris Brown gets community service and Stallworth gets probation then I seriously doubt that Joe Pa goes to jail. They don't just send 85 year old men with no criminal record to jail, never mind 85 year old men that can afford very expensive attorneys. He's more likely to look at a huge civil suit for negligence and if he does get convicted criminally it will be probation.

Neither one of those involved multiple child molestations either. Even child molestation is regarded as a heinous crime amongs murders, rapists, and theives. Also, examples will be made for any and everybody that decides to look the other way when a crime of this nature happens. Not to mention, the nation is watching.

That's the thing. I read somewhere that Sandusky got a retirement package of that a professor would receive so who arranged that package, and why was it arranged after the '98 sexual allegations event? No doubt Joe Paterno was involved in this as well. There is a reason he's calling a defense lawyer, and it's not to schedule a round of golf now that he's unemployed.

My point being that if someone like Chris Brown who actually commits a heinous crime doesn't get jail time what makes you think that an indirect accessory like Joe Pa would get jail time. Civil Suits totaling millions of dollars are going to be his main problem and this is a guy that had $4 million lying around to build a library.

On a side note I just realized that in high school I wore the Penn State logo on my helmet. Funny to think what that logo represents now.

Records released Friday by the university show the 82-year-old Hall of Famer is Penn State's highest-paid employee, making more than $1.03 million last year.

That includes his base salary plus any bonuses, but does not include compensation from outside the university that top coaches typically collect. Paterno's compensation from other sources is not a public record.

The records were released in compliance with a Pennsylvania Right-to-Know law that took effect in January.

Paterno's salary was once one of college football's most closely-guarded secrets until his base salary of roughly $500,000 was made public two years ago as part of an open records request of state retirement data initiated by the Patriot News of Harrisburg.

I agree with you but I was paraphrasing from the penn state neighbor's discussion, and also what I have been seeing on TV.

TV said tonight that two of the charges Joe may face are felonies in the state of Pennsylvania and the violation of the Child Protective Services law can carry a 3 year sentence in jail.

He most likely will have community service / some type of fines, but then again the judge can look how far back joe was covering things up and be stricter on him... I'm not a lawyer so i dont know how that all works.
