Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
This is what PISSES ME OFF about the media. A lot of these professional athletes are out there doing great things for those in need. The only time we hear something is when one of them does something immature or stupid.
As for Landry, if we lose him it's going to be a sad day in DC. Hopefully he retires a Redskin. I still have dreams about him and #21 in same secondary. /facepalm. Last edited by Shadowbyte; 12-02-2011 at 04:27 AM. |

LL is a great physical specimen but he's not a great football player. He's simply not going to be worth the $ he's going to demand. On top of that the guy can't stay healthy. I'd let him walk.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Maybe he won't demand that kind of contract though? If he and his agent are smart they'll keep it reasonable because I doubt any franchise will pay him handsomely. Most teams don't wanna put up w/ the nonsense he brings for one thing...

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
It's a valid point/question to be sure. Part of the time I want to see him walk. I was at the Seattle game last Sunday and from our seats could see the play where Landry went for the hit instead of the tackle (didn't even raise his arms btw) and the receiver bounced off him for something like a 20+ yard gain. As a defender that's just...indefensible.
If Landry was actually a consistent big hitter I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on the play from Sunday but the fact is he just doesn't lay the wood like some people want to pretend. I honestly doubt anyone in the league is afraid of Landry apart from late/cheap hits out of bounds. Flip the coin: he knows the system and I stand by the observation he's neither the sickness or the cure in our secondary woes. If he can be retained for a modest price and won't be a bonehead about it re-sign him IMO...if he even hints at wanting big money or makes a single comment about being dissatisfied show him the door ASAP and (easily) find his replacement in the off-season.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I really wonder what Shanny thinks of him. My guess is that he doesn't like his style but of course wants him to reach his high potential. I see them tendering him next year & if a crazy offer comes in they'll let him walk. Otherwise he has another year to play for a contract.

Once again The Goat will have as many tackles and forced fumbles in an NFL game as Laron Landry this Sunday

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
GTripp, Landry isn't the most important member of our defense. Sorry. We've been dusted with him on the field and without him, which has been quite frequently. He's a solid safety at best when healthy, but not much more. Great athlete, but bad technique and fundamentals.
At this point there's probably more value in keeping him than letting him walk, but either way I don't think it's a deal breaker. I guess we could parse words --"most important, most valuable"..but that person is Ryan Kerrigan. He not only plays his position well, but he plays every damn snap and frees up others to take advantage of mismatches. Last edited by 12thMan; 12-02-2011 at 03:03 PM. |

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
The issue with Landry is that he was a top pick and hasn't played poorly. You look at the second contracts guys get, and being a former high pick plays a big role for some reason. Ryan Clark played great for us but no one gave him a contract. Lavaar played like shit his last year here and got offered something like 35 mil. Deangelo Hall hasn't had one good year in his career and has gotten two huge contracts. I'm sure london fletcher's 1st contract from buffalo wasn't anything special. Reggie Bush didnt deserve to be making 5 mil a year. Eli Manning didn't belong anywhere near the 100 mil qb club when he got his offer.
When players get a rookie contract of 30 mil, its hard to tell them (after they have supposedly improved over the past few years) that they now deserve a 15 mil contract (not that I think Landry deserves 15 mil). Of course this phenomenon doesn't hold true even close to 100%, but there does seem to be a strong correlation. I just think Landry is going to make more money than he's worth, simply because he was picked so high. I hate "potential" |
