Elite Receivers help you get into the playoffs. Elite QB's help you go all the way. Granted if they decide Matt Flynn is their guy I'll root like hell for them to get Blackmon but RGIII will have a bigger impact on this team then any receiver in the league, including the likes of Fitzgerald, Megatron, and Andre Johnson.

What you say makes good sense to me; maybe I'm being short sighted but I want some of that immediate improvement. I want some credibility back and since QB's tend to be a dice roll, I think Blackmon is more of a sure thing that could produce a more significant impact.

FYI my local sports talk radio reported yesterday that Flynn is headed to Cleveland in some kind of sign and trade deal for three of the Browns draft picks.

Flynn is a unrestricted free agent. There would only be a signing, no picks involved.

Glad to hear you are doing well with your bought. Keep on fighting the good fight.

I don't think they have the cap room, and wouldn't that guarantee him the average of the top 5 paid QBs in the league? They still have to sign Finley. Stranger things have happened really so we'll have to wait and see.

Do the Packers need to be under the cap at all times or do they just need to be under the cap on a certain date?

Also, if they were to tag and then trade Flynn then couldn't they tag Finley after Flynn is traded?

I don't know the answers to those questions. I'm simply asking anyone who does to educate me on the rules.

They can only use the tag on one person per year. If they were to use it on Flynn, they wouldn't be able to use it on Finley.

However, if they use it on Flynn, and trade him, they will take a cap hit, if I'm correct, even though he's not on the team. So you would be looking at Green Bay taking a decent cap hit for a guy not on the team, and still having to sign their free agents. I just don't see it happening. I"m not totally positive on the type of cap hit they'll take by franchising and trading. I do know teams can't franchise players with the sole purpose of trading them. I hate bleacher report, but this article is decent on the subject.

2012 NFL Free Agents: Packers Would Be Brilliant to Sign-and-Trade Matt Flynn | Bleacher Report

This is partly why the Colts will not be able to pay Peyton the $28 million bonus AND trade him. The cap hit they'll take would make it a stupid decision.

Yep. Didn't see any elite receivers on the Patriots 3 super bowl teams and wouldn't consider Plax or Santonio Holmes elite either. Wouldn't even consider The Colts WRs elite when they won it. Manning has made his WRs look better than they are. Just don't like the idea of burning the #6 overall pick on a WR unless they're in the mold of megatron or Andre Johnson. Would like to see some size line up on the outside for us. I'd take Jefferey later on. Even AJ Green is 6'4.
