Patrick Ramsey...

From the article "They've warmed up; now they must put up" in the June 10 issue of Sporting News...

Patrick Ramsey -
Prosecution - He has a strong arm, but his intangibles need considerable work.

Defense - The team's decision last year to sign and start Mark Brunell was a big blow to Ramsey's confidence and development.

Verdict - Ramsey will be playing for a shot at a job elsewhere. In Washington, he's only a stopgap until first rounder Jason Campbell takes over.

Re: Patrick Ramsey...

seems to be the winning combination though. A starter (that may be struggling or doing nothing great) and a backup pushing on him, waiting for the opportunity.

Brees/Rivers - starter gets pushed into a great season
Dellehome/Peete - starter gets replaced by capable backup
Kitna/Palmer - starter gets pushed into great season
Brady/Bledsoe - starter gets replaced (injury) by capable backup
Warner/Manning - starter gets pushed, but replaced by dumb front office
Maddox/Rothelsburger - starter gets replaced (injury) by capable rookie backup
Stewart/Maddox - starter replaced by capable backup

i could keep going, but I think we all get the point. Hopefully the pressure of a capable backup QB will help push Ramsey to a great season. Or maybe with a new QB coach and a rookie overshadowed by other rookie QBs in the draft we'll get a 'Big Ben' type season out of Campbell.

Re: Patrick Ramsey...

It's definitely a good problem for us to have. I think if Ramsey performs well for us this year, he'll stick around, but having somebody like Jason Campbell who could be pushing for a starting job in another year or two sounds like a great situation to have. Now, the surprise will be for Brunell to come out and play like the Brunell of old. Then - that changes alot...I don't see it happen, but ya never know.

Re: Patrick Ramsey...

Well we do know one thing that Brunell is not able to push him for the starting QB position. I did though see in one of the pratice films on th skins site Brunell zip a three yard pass at Jacobs ankles.

Re: Patrick Ramsey...

The Sporting News doesn't know anymore than we do if Patrick Ramsey will still be the Redskins starter in 2 years. The Redskins probably don't even know. It comes down to production. The Redskins have been looking for a reliable starter for 15 years. If Ramsey turns into a good winning QB does anyone really think Danny or Gibbs will let him leave to hand the reigns to another unproven guy?

Re: Patrick Ramsey...

PR is my favorite active player right now. I like him so much that I'm writing a song in his honor. It will go something like this:

Patrick, you are the mutha f@#$ing man
I'm here to say youre not just a flash in the pan.
somthing something something....
The few years here you've seen a lot,
Please dont end up like Ricky, stay off the pot!
something something something...
The critics like your arm, but dont think you have what it takes,
In 2005, make 'em all regret thier mistakes.

(lyrics set to death metal)

I smell a hit!
