I agree with Akbar Shabazz Jenkins-Robinson III. The Panthers are one of those teams where one year they suprise everyone and are good all year long, and then the next year their team hits the shitter. The only difference is the last time their team hit the shitter, they lucked their way into Cam Newton. He's setting them up for success for years to come, provided they fix the other pieces.

I'll bet I know exactly who his source is. One of my sources is also a scout connected to the Browns. But he can be pretty ridiculous with his info which is why I always cross check what he says. Though last year he was the only person to give me the heads up on Bowen to the Redskins. But I ignored him.

So what does a Browns scout have to say about the team's regard for Colt McCoy?

Belief that where he was drafted is a strong indicator that they never believed he was their long term solution

Hell, Holmgren even stated as much right after their season was over. Stated they would be bringing in competition at the QB spot. Says everything you need to know.

You would think a team would gauge their level of faith in a prospect based on how they play and not where they were drafted.
Even still IIRC Holmgren wanted to pull the trigger on Colt McCoy earlier in the draft.

Well, their judgement is probably influenced from the initial impression. "We drafted him in the 3rd round because he wasn't a must have for us and we didn't really see him as a franchise long-term solution...so prove us wrong Colt" vs. "We traded up to get him because we believe this is the guy to lead us to multiple titles and we had to have him...so prove us right RG3"

Sounds to me as if the door is still open for Rex in 2012.

Regardless, I think it is now clear to most observers that an NFL team needs to have a QB who is well above average in order to be a contender. That's not Rex.

Nevertheless, I would support signing him as a backup. I think he's more than adequate in that role.

It's not like Kyle gave Rex a ringing endorsement, he said they need to upgrade the position. Which doesn't really bode well for Rex coming back again to start.

I believe that if Rex does come back, it will be as a backup--eventually. Depending upon the draft choice at QB, I do think that it's also possible for Rex to be the starter for the first six-eight games in 2012. Regardless, I hope we re-sign Rex because he is probably the best option as backup QB.

It would be funny if Rex was on a different team but because he was i find that comment a little disconcerting.
Rex Grossman is not a playmaker in anyway shape or form.
