Hutson beat people with speed not size or leaping ability.
The "Alley Oop" maneuver was "invented" by YA Tittle and RC Owens of the SF 49ers back in the mid-50s. Owens also blocked a long field goal attempt once by standing under the crossbar and jumping up to block the ball as it was about to sneak across the bar.

I was thinking that, too. Because it would make sense for someone to stand right in front of the goal post on those really long 55, 57 yard attempts that just barely make it through the bottom crossbar. Someone with enough height could probably block it.

Do not know of any rule that prohibits it. In the NFL, if there is no rule to prohibit something, it is OK - - until they say it is not OK.
I presume it would still be legal.
