Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
If we sign Peyton Manning I wouldn't draft a QB in rounds 1-3.
Those picks would be better spent trying to add pieces to improve the team. I would target developmental QB starting round 4 and down. |

This plan turns QB from a position of weakness to, potentially, a position of strength.

Seriously though, I would look to make some trades and get some more picks in the first 4 rounds so that we can take a QB by the 2nd round but still be able to add other players. On top of that, I suspect we'd be very active (more so than expected) in free agency.

Not sure Hoyer would be up for that. He's ready to be a starter if he's going to go anywhere

To me signing PM also means acquiring his successor. And if we want that successor to be good, it behooves us to draft him in the first 2 rounds.

The Redskins need to do whatever it takes to land their future QB in the draft. Last year we stockpiled draft selections and this offseason Washington needs to give up some draft selections in order to find their passer. If Landry Jones and Matt Barkley had declared for the NFL draft then the Redskins would have more healthy options. But with RG3 and A. Luck being the best two QBs in the upcoming draft, Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan need to do what it takes even if it means giving up a lot in order to land one of these two young quarterbacks two months from now. I think you question is the biggie though. I think we make a run at him. If we get him then we play the waiting game to see how he is by draft day. I'm sure the plan is to pick up offensive weapons anyway no matter who's at QB. If PM is doing well by late April then it's WR, then QB later in the draft. If PM is not doing much better then I could see the team trying to make something happen for RGIII, Luck, or whoever is available at #6 to start the season if need be. All this is my oppinion... not any inside info. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I think the Redskins would feel the same way and this is the exact reason I am lukewarm on the idea of signing Peyton.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Edit: nevermind, I see what you are getting at now. I agree. Can't get PM without also getting a young stud. Otherwise we might reprise the Curtis Painter Experience.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Exactly...it's to big a risk to take without backing it up with as good a rookie QB as you can get your hands on. No one knows if Peyton is playing 1 or 100 more games...

Peyton Manning will very likely be cut by the Colts, unless they want to keep him and pay him 28 mil. He will not cost us any draft picks and will allow MS to draft a QB in the first three rounds. The only risk from this will be paying Peyton, and that is it. If MS drafts a Tannehill or another young QB, you will have an immediate answer to the position and a future answer to the position.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Sorry, not the same thing. If he gets a clean bill of health, and is confident enough in himself, a healthy, motivated Peyton manning, and Donovan McNabb are nowhere in the same fvcking ballpark.
