Seriously though, I would look to make some trades and get some more picks in the first 4 rounds so that we can take a QB by the 2nd round but still be able to add other players. On top of that, I suspect we'd be very active (more so than expected) in free agency.

This is the plan I had in mind. Sign PM. Trade down from #6 so that we still had picks to select a QB, OL, and WR before the second round ends. WIN.

To me signing PM also means acquiring his successor. And if we want that successor to be good, it behooves us to draft him in the first 2 rounds.

This. I also agree completely with this plan. Of course, the question still remains unanswered: Is Peyton capable of returning to his previous state of good health? If he can't, this entire thing is moot.

The Redskins need to get out of the needy habit of acquiring quarterbacks from other teams. Brad Johnson, Tony Banks, Mark Brunell, Todd Collins, Donovan McNabb....will this crap ever stop? While Johnson and Brunell did guide us to playoff appearances, that's all they did. That is as far as they took us. I understand that Peyton Manning is the best QB since Marino, but how much will the Redskins offense improve with him at the helm? Will he be able to play in a west coast offense after being in the same offense for Indy for so long? Will he call his own plays like he's used to doing? Why would he want to play for a team like Washington who is not only rebuilding, but tries to micro manage what their QB does? I can see lots of conflict taking place between Peyton and Kyle Shanahan and it will result the same as with McNabb.

The Redskins need to do whatever it takes to land their future QB in the draft. Last year we stockpiled draft selections and this offseason Washington needs to give up some draft selections in order to find their passer. If Landry Jones and Matt Barkley had declared for the NFL draft then the Redskins would have more healthy options. But with RG3 and A. Luck being the best two QBs in the upcoming draft, Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan need to do what it takes even if it means giving up a lot in order to land one of these two young quarterbacks two months from now.

and here's the short answer.... he's healthy enough to play. Which means he can take a hit. No one will prbably know about the numbness in his arm/hand until around March-April when the doctors expect for the swelling to have supposedly gone down enough to get his feeling back.

I think you question is the biggie though. I think we make a run at him. If we get him then we play the waiting game to see how he is by draft day. I'm sure the plan is to pick up offensive weapons anyway no matter who's at QB. If PM is doing well by late April then it's WR, then QB later in the draft. If PM is not doing much better then I could see the team trying to make something happen for RGIII, Luck, or whoever is available at #6 to start the season if need be.

All this is my oppinion... not any inside info.
