If the Redskins were trading up with Indianapolis for the #1 overall pick, then the compensation of that second round draft pick would be about right in a deal like that. But with the #2 overall pick, Redskin officials are right to refuse to add their 2nd round selection in this year's draft as a part of the deal. This year's first round pick, this year's 3rd round pick, and maybe a 4th round pick in addition to next year's 1st round pick is enough to give the Rams to move up to their spot in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.

The lambs are playing a crazy game think about even if cleveland dosen't want to give up their 2nd 1st round pick their 1st rd & 2nd rd picks are still before our 1st & 2nd rd picks meaning cleveland must be offering 1st & 4th rd pick.

Most certainly. Vinny Cerratto would have given away the entire draft to move up to #2. The thing that I didn't appreciate about Cerratto was he did things that previous Redskin GM Charley Casserly and Bobby Beathard never did. Vinny Cerratto's main failing as Redskins general manager was that he had no idea or no basic concept of team building. This is why from 1999 to 2009, the Redskins only had three playoff appearances, countless losses, and only two playoff victories.

Well, if this was the Cerrato/Zorn FO, I think it would've gone like this:

I'm glad we are being tough about the #2 pick this year. Losing that pick would substantially neuter our draft. Keeping that pick means that we can get help for our new QB.

Very true. It's important to have a line drawn somewhere.

IMO, if you grab a quarterback this year, the potential upside of the 2013 first rounder drops significant, because one thing you can't draft with it is your QB of the future.

And if you believe like I do that there are plenty of market inefficiencies caused by too many teams overvaluing the QB position, then you can still win on draft day 2013 by trading around with teams that need to position themselves for quarterbacks.

What you can't do is ever trade a future first rounder and potentially find out later that you had a quarterback you liked sitting where you would have picked him, and didn't have the pick. It's why you can't carelessly throw high draft picks around with no clear organization philosophy on how to improve.

Once FA starts and some of the teams with QB needs start making moves, there will be less teams vying to trade. IMO this will hurt the Rams based on supply-demand.
