Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Or why would we go with an older more expensive FA (such as Mario Williams)?

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Well, as you all recall I've been preparing you guys for a possible Orakpo departure since around November...that said though, the Redskins were actively shopping him in their attempt to secure a franchise QB, which they presumably have now.
So while it wouldn't surprise me if Rak is still on the market-not because they don't like him, but because he has value-I would be surprised if this rumored trade involved him.

What would we trade him FOR though? Picks? Players? Neither makes a ton of sense to me given orakpos youth, our cap space, and the free agent market

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I think it would be smarter to keep Rak this year and shop him next year to recoup a first rounder. An improve offense may help the defense and could increase Orakpo's value. Besides, I would want to see another year of Kerrigan. I don't think he'll decline at all, but still.

If you could pick up Mario Williams, and net a 1st rounder by trading Rak, would you do it? I would in fact go all Vinny Cerrato on this!!! :cool-smil

You don't think the defense would be better with an improved offense? Besides, I feel that MW is going to go to a 4-3 team.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Dont think we would get a first for Orakpo, that is just my guess but teams value draft picks so highly now.
With Hutchinson now available does anyone think we should take a serious look at him? |

Hell yes, we should look at Hutchinson! He can still play. I'd try to plug him in at LG for a couple of years.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Trading Orakpo would be stupid. Sure, we have a comparable player with Kerrigan on the other side, but having both of them makes this defense a tough matchup.
As for Mario Williams vs. Rak, I'd rather have Rak...Mario has missed 14 games over the last 2 years due to injury and Orakpo is younger with no injury history and just as much impact.

As far as I know it's not a WR, but I don't want to jump the gun and say anything. I'll let you know as soon as I know.

I HATE the thought of losing him but his salary vs. output has been suppressed since Davis emerged, plus his injuries. May be the time to get optimal value for him. Man, losing him and Landry would be a bittersweet offseason but the team is moving in the right direction. I HIGHLY doubt Orakpo will be traded away. If it's D-Hall, we'll have a huge task at restocking the secondary at CB and safety. I'm not sure we'll empty out the defensive backfield like that after trading away so many high draft picks.

I REALLY hope the trade doesn't involve Orakpo. Take DeAngelo Hall instead!!!

I would be very surprised if it's Orakpo. I think that ship sailed.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Or it could be Fred Davis? Cooley sadly has very little value to other teams in my opinion but Davis is younger healthier and faster and showed he has big play ability. I know Shannahan has said he likes him but that does not mean that much.
