Tennessee vs. Kentucky Football Game Highlights - 11/29/2008 - YouTube
Why isn't anyone talking about Jonathan Crompton? People mention Grossman and Beck, but to everyone who doesn't know it, this kid served as our practice squad QB last season. He was signed to a contract at the end of the season. |

I doubt if the coaches don't think Crompton can't play. He's viewed as a young developmental project/prospect and are just bringing him along slowly. If not, why sign him to the active roster at season's end? |

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Crompton will be our PS guy if we don't get another QB in FA or draft.
I hope we don't spend precious cap money on a FA QB like Orton, who will cost to much for a backup. Too bad we couldn't bring JC back for the 1-year, $3.5 million Chicago paid him. ![]() I think it will be: RG3 - Day 1 starter Beck - Shanny obviously loves (or loved) him Crompton - Practice Squad Unless, we draft a Kellen Moore or another mid to late-round QB.

I thought we should have given Beck a little more playing time last season. True, we had not scored for 3 weeks, but it was a lost season at that point and we knew what Rex could do already. We do not want to be the Bears without a real backup, but we also do not want to invest much in one. If Rex is cheap enough and no one else wants him, sure, make the swap. If anyone but RG3 is playing QB, it's going to be a huge drop-off no matter who it is.

Beck had mobility that Rex did not, and did not fumble whenever anyone breathed on him. He had a few advantages over Rex. Doesn't matter which one is our backup, we're screwed if either of them have to play. Rex will move the ball and keep the games close, but will always choke when it matters most.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
After what we saw out of John Beck last season, how could Mike Shanahan still think highly of him as a QB? After all, the guy is 0-7 as a starter in his NFL career and 0-3 as the Redskins quarterback. If Mike Shanahan truly liked Beck, he would have stuck with him. But his preference to reinsert Rex Grossman back into the starting lineup for the rest of the season speaks volumes on his opinion of Beck. Maybe Beck will improve during the off season. After all, he works out with the likes of Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers during the off season but from what we saw of him last season, it didn't do him a bit of good. Beck, like Eli Manning, needs his own quarterbacks coach.
As far as Crompton is concerned, this coming training camp/preseason is a opportunity for him to outshine Beck or Grossman. If he does well running the offense, or even exceeds expectations, I don't see how they can send him back to the practice squad. |

Good chance Rex comes back, but it probably also depends on who else might hit the wire. Beck should be gone I think. Crompton... who cares.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I guess its because I'm always pulling for an underdog and Crompton is an underdog. But even with Grossman, while throwing for over 3,000 yards and moving the offense, the guy was still pitiful playing QB. Almost to the point that there have been mentions in the Washington Post about the Redskins taking the option of not re-signing him. Beck...I don't want to say anything else about Beck. He's a total bum. Although Crompton is young(24), would he really be that much worse than Beck or Grossman?
