Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

do you think we will go into this FA like nothing has happend and just putt of the 36 mill until next year since we belie e we haven't done anything wrong and try and fight it before then? that's what I got from our statement, that our mindset is the same and nothing has changed

That's what you'd think, but it doesn't seem like an option anymore.

NFL already took 18 million, which is essentially their way of trying to get the Redskins to agree with it in one way or another.

Schefter on Mike and Mike. Said the NFL split it already and the Redskins would have to go to them and agree if they wanted to distribute it differently.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

Even during the years where the Redskins over spent freely and were always in cap hell or close to it, they still were able to sign guys (regardless if they were over the hill or not) so I'm not worried that the Redskins will still be able to take advantage of free agency this year and next. But FRPLG does bring up a good point. This does affect the Redskins, even somewhat over those years of restructure, so I'll be curious to see how the front office is able to work that out over the years. I have not doubt the 'skins will be just fine, but they should definitely fight this.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

One day removed from the news and my blood pressure and BAC has come down to a point where I can look at this with a more level head. Yes it is still very upsetting and I feel it is unfair, but we can let the lawyers fight that fight. In the end we will still have money to spend this year, 22 million if we take half the hit this year (I would think that taking more of the hit would be a good idea since we have so much cap room) and that is enough to start filling some holes on the roster!

Part of my, and I am assuming others, overreaction was based on the the roller coaster of being so high over RG3 and hoping things were looking up for us and then getting initial reports that all but 4 million of our cap space was gone (remember the very first reports did not say it could be spread out over 2 years....or I was too angry to comprehend)

As long as we can resign Fletcher and make a serious run at Winston and VJ or another top flight WR I will be fine.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

I'd be entirely happy with this as a solution.

Take half now and half next year then give it back to us the following two years and remove it from the other teams cap space accordingly. We're in good enough position now that in 3 and 4 years we could probably use the space better.

Let's assume for a moment that the ruling of the owners stands as is and the penalty remains in force(and that may not be the case in the end).
If we had not dumped dumped Albert's money and front loaded Hall's contract (and whatever we are accused of)
....what would our Cap position be today?
CC? Gtripp?

What happened to the previous reporting that it could be spread however? I don't remember Judge ever being a super-source on NFL stuff like this. He's in the second tier of guys behind Shifty, Mort, Clayton, Breer and co.

.. They did this so that the Redskins couldn't ignore it this season. It's unfortunate, but it's now a reality.

Clark's pretty solid. The CBS guys in general are douches though.

But that's neither here nor there. I'm hearing conflicting reports on this, so I'm trying to get some confirmation

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

Don't know if this has been shared yet, but I'm proud of Bruce Allen's retort:

The Redskins Blog | Statement On Adjusted Salary Cap Reports

He's right. The league approved these (bad) deals. How can we be penalized for spending in an UPCAPPED year anyway when we are in compliance with the cap rules when it returned?

I heard a report on CSN Washington this morning stating "we did not necessarily violate any rules, just the spirit of the rule".

What the hell is that? Utter BS. This would be akin to a cop pulling you over and saying, "Sir, you were not speeding but your Corvette looks fast so I am going to write you a speeding ticket in the 'spirit of the law'."

Or, your wife sees you looking at another woman crossing the street and files for divorce citing adultery and takes half your crap on a false accusation.

I used to like Roger Goodell when he came into the league with the tough enforcer stance, but his ego and power trip are becoming harmful to the game. All of the stupid on-field rules, watering down the quality of the play in the name of "safety"...now this? He approved Vinny's stupid payouts...case closed. Spend on, Mr. Allen.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

Danny needs to file an injunction and stop this whole damn free agency today until this gets resolved...

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

I just check the NFL.com website, if it is official, it should be there right??? Nutin! Not one mention that they are removing our the cap money or re-distributing to others. You would think that there would be some notice to Allen or Snyder. This doesn't smell right......
