I'd like to see us use more traditional 4 man fronts, especially with hybrid defenses being all the rage in the league now a days.

Just every now and then it would be nice to see both Kerrigan and Orakpo lining up as traditional defensive ends with their hands in the dirt and two DT's inside (presumably Carriker and Cofield). I know we run 4 man fronts some times but thats usually with Orakpo and Kerrigan in a two point stance.

True 30 defenses, like the Steelers and the Redskins are already pretty multiple as it is. Our sub package is a 40 front (as you mentioned) and typically involves both OLBs with their hands in the dird.

I would like to see them get more multiple with that sub package. What they do a lot of is they will overload one side with an SS pressure to force the offense to adjust their protection/go hot with the football. But the fact that we pretty much have to wait for a passing down to use that wrinkle suggests that we're missing opportunities to get our best personnel on the field in earlier downs.

Ever since the first six games Haslett was coordinator, we haven't seen much interior pass rush. Sure, Fletcher or McIntosh will come with delayed A-gap pressure a lot, but we live and die with straight four man rushes and defensive overloads. I feel like if we were more multiple, we could acquire more useful personnel that creates favorable match-ups for our rushers.

That's the opportunity we are missing on defense right now. In our sub packages, we should be attacking the weak links of the opponent's pass protection. Instead, we're trying to isolate the tackles on the edge, and/or get a free rusher. Nothing wrong with that, just missing opportunities to be even better.

You might have numbers which disprove what I can only offer in impressions...but in my memory times when both Rak and Kerrigan had their hands in the dirt were rare at best.

Isn't some of that reliant on having a better secondary also? I think we do an adequate job of pressure but our coverage schemes on the back end when we send pressure seem very suspect. Too many times when we send 5, 6 or 7 the other team ends up having receivers running free with no DB in sight to come up and make a quick tackle or in position to make a play on the ball.
