Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

Those ripping the Skins for wanting to have good depth at QB probably also ripped the Colts and Bears last year for not having good depth at QB. This whole thing is absurd.

#1 Rippers.... Chad and Lavar. I turned on the radio yesterday around 3:30 and they again were ripping the Skins for doing this, then had a guest on whom they tried to say was just as confused and had the same oppinion.... hello, they invited him on their show of course he will have the same oppinion. They made sure of that.

Would it have been ok if we took Tannehill and in the 4th picked up Cousins? would the media have been more positive of that move? Our two guys will push each other. Cousins is a video hound so he will look at every aspect of what makes the other teams defense weak and hopefully that rubs off on RG3 if he doesn't already have that in him.

So, in everyone's opinion, how does preseason work? Does Grossman see any snaps, or is it Griffin 2-3 quarters, Cousins the rest? Or does Grossman act as a buffer between the two?

Jonathan Crompton starts all 16 quarters

or

Grossman starts 1st game, gets in about two series

Griffin starts 2nd game, gets in about a quarter and a half

Griffin starts 3rd game, gets in 3 quarters

Cousins starts 4th game, gets in the first half

Who knows what the team will do but I'd imagine RG3 will get most of the snaps. Grossman and Cousins will split the remaining.

Preseason games I'd imagine the first game each get a quarter and or a quarter and a half. The second game RG3 gets maybe a half to help learn the offense the other two get a quarter. The third game the same. The last game I'd imagine RG3 gets a quarter maybe quarter and a half then then Cousins probably would finish the game. They know what they got in RG1 and he knows the system already. So I'd imagine RG3 and Cousins would get most of the playing time so they can learn and the coaches can see what they can do.

Definitely think it's wise to keep Grossman as the #2 this year as that buffer.

would you mind sharing what he said? (or is it what ncskins posted)

31 other teams had a chance to pick him anywhere between 2 and 4 times before we picked him up and they didnt. he's a bloody fourth round pick for goodness sake. Rex is a good mentor/#3 but hes a guy you NEVER want to see step onto the field. Backup QB was a HUGE need for this team. The 4th round is the PERFECT place to draft a BACKUP QUARTERBACK.

The media keeps saying we had so many other needs and suggest we should have gone OL or DB with that pick. Thats the part of the media criticism that bothers me the most. There is not a single other player we could have picked up at that point that would project to be an immediate starter. ANYONE we could have picked would probalby not see the field as a starter until 2013 or 2014. I just want someone to ask the media critics this:

Whats more important - A backup cornerback/linebacker/OL or a backup quarterback?

Which would hurt the team more - Josh wilson going down and Kevin Barnes filling in or RGIII going down and Grossman filling in?

What backup cornerback/linebacker/OL is better at their position than Cousins is at his?

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

Waste of a pick but the likely hood of your 4th round pick being a significant starter is low. But there isn't any question who the starter is in Shanahan's mind. he is tied to RG3 and not to Cousins. Cousins isn't going to push RG3. RG3 knows he has at least 3 years as a starter no matter who his back up is.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

According to Graziano, 14 teams started the same QB all season last year. That means there is a 67% chance our backup sees action over one year, and virtual certainty that our backup will start multiple games over the next 10-15 years. Add to that a QB that can run / take hits, and one that has already missed a year with an injury.. I think this was a great move.

In comparison, our 4th round picks for the past ~2 decades:
2011 - 4th - Roy Helu RB
2010 - 4th - Perry Riley LB
2008 - 4th - Justin Tryon CB
2005 - 4th - Manuel White FB
2001 - 4th - Sage Rosenfelds QB
2000 - 4th - Michael Moore G
1999 - 4th - Nate Stimson LB
1998 - 4th - Shawn Barber LB
1997 - 4th - Albert Connel WR

For the past 15 years, 3 out of 8 fourth round picks ended up being... average. Riley and Helu could do more, but for now we should say they're passable / average. I'd say Cousins is a MUCH safer pick in a position of need. With near certainty of playing multiple games over the next decade, a good backup QB makes the difference between winning/losing, and competing when the unthinkable happens (think TJ Yates, Cassel @ NE, Flynn).

And I agree completely that if New England, the Steelers or Ravens make this pick, everyone would be saying it was pure genius. But to be fair - we haven't done much over the past 20 years to deserve any credit -- yet. RG3 and Shanahan hopefully will change our reputation so our moves won't be questioned in the future..

I thought Skip Bayless had reached the pinnacle of stupidity, but I was wrong after viewing this segment. Guy simply needs to be fired. Bringing up race? Really? He's pretty much calling the Redskins fans racists(and Shanahan).

I used to think that the media only gave us shit because we were horrible, so now that we've changed everything, they are still on our nuts. At this point, it won't matter if we start winning Super Bowls because they are going to continue hatting.

It's sad Eric Mangini has to put him in place. /facepalm

I now remember why I don't watch those dumbass shows.
