Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

The more i think about it, the less i like the pick. One of Cousins qualities all the experts talked about was his leadership abilities. I just think if RG3 struggles this year and next year there will a lot of fans calling for Cousins. RG3 has a lot of pressure already. I guess only time will tell, but if he does struggle in 2012 and 2013 RG3 and the Skins will have a bad divorce IMO.

Given the resources the team used to get RG3, it'd be ridiculously stupid for MS to give up on RG3 should he hit a bump on the road.

Speaking generally, I do feel a lot of fans need to realize that RG3 is not necessarily going to take this team to the playoffs right away.

If (that's IF) Griffin struggles two years in a row, it would be a natural to consider alternatives, regardless of who was on the bench.

Shanahan stated he couldn't pass Cousins up and I believe he noticed what happened in Houston last year. I would rather have Cousins sub in for an injurjed RG than Rex

I'm with you. Some want to play devil's advocate.

The Redskins gave up alot for RGIII so to say it would take alot to move from him to your #2 would be putting it mildlyBoth are very good young QB's and both I'm sure feel they can play in the NFL,I just believe that it will only be a matter of time before Cousins feels he can be a starter in the NFL somewhere.

Anyone calling for Cousins after one year of RG3 would lose all credibility as a football fan. You don't give the No. 2 pick in the draft one year. Although, it is the 'Skins.

I agree but if the team doesn't make a playoff push in 2013, MS could be gone.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

If RG3 is really struggling 2 years in, we have bigger problems than worrying about who the backup is.

The only way RG3 loses the job is if he plays his way out of it. The presence of Cousins isn't going to determine his fate.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

I like the Cousins pick, nice to have a good backup QB for a franchise QB who does sometimes run. Nice to have a front office who doesn't rely on a Curtis Painter for 10 years.. If we go deep into the playoffs (in 3-5 years), and our QB gets whacked by Polamalu or Ray Lewis-type player -- it would be nice to believe we could still win the game..

Btw, seems like Cousins is a good leader, but immobile - negative 100 yards rushing I believe in his career.. IF RG3 ever goes out, we'd have to completely switch our game plan, etc.

Here's my question -- why did Cousins' drop? Past Foles, Osweiler, etc. Sure, maybe he was a "steal", but why did everyone else pass on him three times?

I'm pretty sure RGIII will learn the standard fare in the Shanahan offense in addition to the special plays just for him, similar to Newton learning the Air Coryell along with the plays to take advantage of his natural abilities.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

Not sure I'd say Cousins "dropped". He was projected to go somewhere between rounds 2-4.

He's got decent mobility, keep in mind sacks count against rushing yards in college.

Cousins would not have made it to our second pick in round 4.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

I don't see what the fuss is about really. Yeah I get the argument that a potential starter at other positions could have been taken with that pick. If that's your beef, ok.

But a 4th rounder is no real threat to a guy like RG3 who we just gave up a fortune to get.

I think their roles are pretty clear.

Plus the value of a good back up is immense! Instead of trying to shift thur other teams trash to find a quality back up why not draft someone you love and develop them.
