Everyone though has the out of the limelight moment, you just adjust and maybe do something related such as doing radio or an ESPN analyst or something around those lines, or devote all your time to your charity. It just seems to be a tragic waste of life.

You're making it sound much easier than it is

It isn't easy if you are the one that has a ton of $ thrust on you for being an All Pro for so long ,with all the adjulation, etc. Not trying to make light of it, but c'mon now. Guys like Darrell Green don't say oh well my playing days are over and all I have in my charity work and get depressed. Everyone has a different temperment Smooty, I know. But Junior did have a lot going for him in terms of community involvement, etc. He could have still made a difference somehow. He could have coached if he wanted a new challenge. Just is a tragic waste of a good human being is my point

Wonder if he was having mental breakdowns from all those hits over the course of his career? Didn't Dave Duerson commit suicide over this same thing?

I know he had depression issues. I don't know if they were related to concussions/brain damage.

Seems like it could be likely.

Shame.

How sad for his kids! He was one of the all time the best S.D. Chargers ever. RIP

Reported that it was a gunshot wound to the chest like Dave Duerson. Unconfirmed though.

I'm no expert on this, but it's my understanding self inflicted shots to the chest generally mean they want to preserve the brain. Probably for research

2nd NFL suicide in less than 2 weeks. Awful
