There's big money in the energy industries and there are still insane radical activists protesting to ban every type of energy that's not from the clouds or sun...and energy is much more of a necessity in life than sports. Some groups want to ban meat. Others, religion. There will definitely be a liberal movement to ban sports someday, if there's not a quiet one going on already, but we'll crush them. It will never be allowed to happen. Even Congress would not allow it. They think sports are so important that they're spending our tax money right now in an unnecessary trial to see if a pitcher lied about cheating in baseball. They understand the social and economic importance of sports, that's why they're always meddling in it to do what they THINK is good for the sports. Quote:

re: Junior Seau Confirmed Dead
So, can we get people to stop talking about Goodell making this a pansy league? There are a lot of good clean hits even without headshots and other things.
No one wants to see there favorite NFL star committing suicide in his 40's regardless of what team they root for. Good luck to his family as they deal with this tragedy

re: Junior Seau Confirmed Dead
Sadly Seau tried to kill himself a while ago by running his car over a cliff while he was driving. Can't confirm this but I've got a close friend out in SD who told me that Seau couldn't get over a real bad break up w/ someone. That's apparently why he tried to kill himself in the car. Not sure if it was his wife or not but obviously he fell into a deep depression after this break up. Sucks...he has 3 kids.

Re: Junior Seau Confirmed Dead
Wow, extremely sad. Definitely one of the very bests. I can only hope the best for his family right now.

Re: Junior Seau Confirmed Dead
Right now there is no proof that Seau killed himself cause of too many hits to the head. I know the media is going to jump on this but how about we let the facts come out before we start blaming this on head trauma.

There weren't any indications that he had any brain issues (other than driving off a cliff). We went through a divorce, custody battle and domestic issues with a 25 year old girlfriend. My prayers go out to his family. ![]() Some guys lose the fame, money and perks of being a super star and can't cope. Look at a guy like Terrell Owens, he might have already tried to commit suicide because he claims to be broke and the nfl doesn't want him anymore. T.O. assistant described pill overdose as suicide attempt in 911 call - NYPOST.com He was definitely an attention whore so the only thing he has left is celebrity apprentice and dancing with the stars. I hope someone can get TO some help before he tries to commit suicide again. |

Re: Junior Seau Confirmed Dead
After 19 years of playing in the NFL, plus add a college and high school football career, I am fairly certain they are going to find brain trauma. Now is there a definitive test to prove this trauma led to his depression? Probably not. But the growing amount of similar cases is leading to a probable trend.

I don't think there's anything wrong with tossing that out there right now, considering how long he played like you said. In fact I think it would be a little naive to think it's not a strong possibility. |

This situation kind of reminds me of the tobacco and lung, throat and mouth cancer situation before it could be proved. There was no way back then to scientifically prove that a heavy smoker that died prematurely of lung cancer, died directly because he smoked two packs a day. The tobacco industry paid the $ price after it could be proved scientifically that smoking tobacco can cause cancer and lied about it or concealed the truth. Brain trauma and its direct effects are much more difficult to prove. But it does not take a rocket scientist to see former a boxers that slurs his words and suffers from other motor skill issues to know getting hit on the head repeatedly for 19+ years is not a good thing. Just like inhaling smoke is also not a great idea. It is not that difficult of an assumption to make. Science will one day catch up to this question and will either prove or disprove this theory. |
