Re: cooley done in dc?
He will probably re-structure. He probably knows that he isn't going to be a starter unless there is an injury in the NFL. His body is very broken down at 29. He is a great guy but he has had alot of injuries over the years. He might make a very good backup. We will see.

Re: cooley done in dc?
I hope they keep him, but I could understand if they drop him or trade him if possible. Cooley is one of the last Gibbs II guys on the roster, if he isn't indeed the last one left. It will sad if they did get rid of him. He is a great player still and is a team guy.

Re: cooley done in dc?
love Cooley but between injuries and dropsies over the past few years if we have to move on.. we do
it's not like we've been a winning team with him.. or due to him... don't get me wrong, he's greatly contributed to the limited success that we've had.. and I'll always view him as a TRUE Redskin, but part of being a fan is wanting the best for your team.. so I hope that he can contribute well

Re: cooley done in dc?
Don't count Chris Cooley out just yet. He's just had a major set back. He's heading back in the right direction. He's slimmed down after dropping twenty pounds and he says his knee is feeling okay. Hopefully, he can return to the Chris Cooley of old.

Re: cooley done in dc?
As others said, Cooley will be retained only if the restructures to ultimately take a pay cut. Davis is the undisputed starter unless he gets suspended (again) or injured. Cooley is an important backup at this point but you can't have a backup eat up so much toward the salary cap.
The Niles Paul move to TE is insurance against possibly losing Cooley IMO. If Cooley takes the cut and is actually healthy he'll be the primary backup. If Cooley chooses to move on it's a big opportunity for Paul.

Sounds all well and good. But where does this leave Logan Paulsen? He's the forgotten tight end now. |

Re: cooley done in dc?
Hard to say? He's still our best blocking TE probably...

FD better come to camp ready to work, because I think CC is going to be breathing down his neck.

1- Paul is a better blocker 2- Paul is faster One of the problems Paul had at WR was getting separation from CBs. As a TE, he's going to have 0 problem with getting separation from LBs and Safeties. Cooley isn't going to outrun anybody. His main thing over the course of the years has been finding spots in the zone and breaking tackles. Whereas, FD catches the passes in stride or on slants and gets serious yardage afterwards. I expect Paul to be in the same mold. I know I'm going to catch hell for feeling this way though.

I mean, a depth chart is a depth chart and Cooley is versatile enough to play all the TE positions. But while I expect his role to be reduced, they know for certain that he's the best blocker they have at the TE position. And I think he'll be doing a lot of blocking this year.
