None of the veterans were even remotely appealing. Mare and Longwell are both like 300 years old and neither could kick the dust off their own feet. I'd much rather go with a highly touted young guy like Korbath who has upside than veterans whos best days are behind them for a 100 percent certainty.
RACKERS RACKERS RACKERS
The 36-year-old kicker has played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans over 12 seasons, and his 88.2 field goal percentage over the last three years is third best in the NFL over that span.
tHE ONLY REASON HE'S STILL NOT KICKING FOR TEXANS WAS CONTRACT ISSUE,NOT PERFORMANCE BASED

Im all for upside, but Gano had "upside" so we stuck with him and we see how that turned out

I mean all the veterans are "scrap-heap" guys at this point. If you're a vet kicker and NOT on a team 5 weeks in you're just a guy. It's the truth. Maybe you get brought in and stay hot for a while but you're not going all of a sudden become a stud kicker. Look around the league...the good kickers all came in as young guys and developed. At this point what is the benefit of a guy like Brown compared to Forbath? Nothing. Brown is what he is. Forbath may be more than what he currently is. We gave Gano a similar chance and he didn't develop enough. Cundiff was a "on paper" upgrade who went in the tank. This new guy might develop into a solid kicker. If not he isn't much worse than a decent vet. Which is all that is available.

If he sucks though your on the hook.
Also If forbath misses what do we call him? As horrible as it is the whole gano good and billy cundont has kind of grown on me.
Never mind.
Bad thought.

Forbath might end up being just as good as Chip Lomiller was. We just have to wait and see.

Sure, but tons of other teams have the same thing happen too. Basically do you want to fill a hole with a career backup rookie (maybe young?) or a solid vet while you wait to fill those holes in the draft or FA?

For me, I'd rather go solid vet until we can fill the hole. How often have we brought in a young discarded player that suddenly becomes awesome? Doesn't happen often for many teams unfortunately.

Well we have struck out on both of those. Gano was your young career backup, and Cundiff was the "solid vet". yeah.

It happens and it happens a lot. I think our issue is that we either stick with people too long, get gunshy and the suddenly cut someone promising after a miss here and there. Kickers are a tough commodity to come by, hence the reason they stay with their current teams.

OMG you might be a bigger Gaffney-over-Garcon proponent than I am...where have you been all this time?!

How is he a retread when he hasn't kicked in a regular season game yet?

Stand corrected Cundiff was a retread. But Forbath the new guy has seen time with the Bucs and Cowboys. One would think if he was any good .... wouldn't they have kept him? Beck is a similar example for me... if he was any good wouldn't the 3 other teams prior to us have kept him?

great argument, we cut david akers in 1998 because he wasn't any good. blows my mind how he's still playing...

The Cowboys actually kept this kid on IR the whole year. He then tried out for the Bucs and really it was Connor Barth's job to lose which he didn't. So this kid essentially just hasn't had the opportunity.

Am I the only person that knows Google exists? Just curious.

Ok there in lies my problem.... I'm using Bing. lol.

All I did was go to the article and read how he was with the Bucs and Cowboys. Did I do any extensive searching? no. I'm just pointing out that if he was really good those teams would have kept him or some other team would have picked him up lickety split. It's not like he was cut yesterday and we are picking him up today. How long has he been sitting waiting for a call? atleast preseason?

Dallas Signed him and put him on injured reserve for the season.....the next season jones cut him after making a advertising request and he refused.
Tampa Bay signed him and he didnt miss during the preseason but they have a Kicker who has hit 23 in a row.......So he is getting his chance! and hopefully he will be here for awhile!! Accurate at 50 +!!
