They recently scraped some gold off the golden dome tower when they replated (reguilded) it and mixed the flakes in with the paint...made the paint even more metallic than it had been before. They've always used the 24k gold flakes in the paint but they have a new batch of flakes and reexamined the painting process, because they weren't happy with the shade they had over the last few years.
