Nah....it's not about race one bit.

ps: FD, your 2004 graph still proves the other graph correct.
I wonder if 20 years ago a Mormon had a chance at the presidency. They are going through the 5 stages of grief but I am not hopeful they will emerge from it as more enlightened.

Interesting footnote: We lost Georgia by less than 10 points. The Latino/Hispanic population there has doubled in the past 10 years to over 850K.

Obama also reached high 40s in MS, NC, and SC. The new south baby!

Could be wrong but what does a one legged man have to do with race?

My bad. Didnt notice that second graph. Was looking at it on my iphone. The vote count did grow in those "confederate states". So they are adapting. No doubt though that race played a part in the election. Sad but true. Im by no means calling anybody on this site racist but they are out there. They want to point at Obamas failures to disguise their disgust with a black president. Bottom line is Obama got shot down alot by the house/ senate/ congress because alot of those republicans acted out of spite as opposed to reason. I hope they learned their lesson and work together this time in the name of progress.

The race element is definitely out there. As someone who has spent some time in the deep south the past few years, I've heard it loud and clear with my own ears. To deny it's out there is just plain ignorant.

The only people who deny racism are those who've never encountered it. Yes, its not 1950 anymore, but it reminds me of the sketch from Family Guy (since I can't find the video, here's the transcript):

Cleveland: Thanks for including my Civil Rights boardgame in the game night rotation guys.
Lois: Oh, we're always happy to play "Two Decades of Dignity." It makes us all feel a little less guilty.
(Peter rolls dice and moves his gamepiece.)
Peter (reading off a gamecard): For whistling at a white woman, go directly to jail. Aww, man doesn't anyone ever win at this game?
Cleveland: You don't win. You just do a little better each time.

Was race a part of the vote? Sure. But lets not pretend it was a one way street.
Less than 60% of whites voted for Romney.
More than 90% of blacks voted for Obama.
Racism works both ways: there are whites who would never vote for a black and vice versa.

This is not a chicken and egg problem. It's a problem that spawned from years of repressive tactics, the southern dog whistles, and more recently the blatant disrespect of 47% of the population. Here is the break down of the African American vote over the last 7 cycles...the truth is in the last 12 years you managed to not only lose it further but to agitate and encourage it to not vote for you.

Quote:
1984 Walter Mondale 90% Ronald Reagan 9%
1988 Michael Dukakis 90% George H.W. Bush 10%
1992 Bill Clinton 83% George H.W. Bush 10%
1996 Bill Clinton 84% Bob Dole 12%
2000 Al Gore 90% George W. Bush 9%
2004 John Kerry 88%, George W. Bush 11%
2008 Barack Obama 95%, John McCain 13%
It is easier to blame African Americans than look in the mirror. Mark my words, come 2020 your little redistricting gimmicks to control the house won't work as well as it has been the last 30 years.

It's not like Romney was pandering for minority votes anyway. The religious right is much more important.

Hahaha yeah I remember that bit. So funny because it's true.

Of course it is. A lot of blacks who won't vote for Romney because he's white.

I do think that's slightly different vs. when i hear people in the south drape themselves with the Confederate flag and call Obama a terrorist n*****.

Seen it plenty just down in Charlottesville, VA.
