I like the look of wrought iron balusters with a wooden top railing personally.

Something like this would look nice:


All you need is the wood the wood and a spade drill bit to install.



If you're looking at low maintenance, PVC is the way to go and it's the easiest to cut when installing.

Just take a look at Lowe's, they have a ton of different options.
