Re: At least they threw downfield!

I agree that it's great news about the O-line, but let's not get carried away here--the vertical passing game, which is crucial to the success of the team, was not there. So we still don't know about that, and it's the biggest question mark we have.

I do think it all starts with the O-line, and that if they can give PR time to throw, he'll get the vertical game going, but until I see it (and until it puts points up on the board), I am going to withhold judgment.

It's the first preseason game--we can't read too much negative in it, but by the same token, we can't read too much positive in either. Gotta be realistic here--keep an even keel and improve week-to-week.

(PS Nice to hear about Dockery--but the knock on him is consistency. Can he keep it going for a full game, and a full season? If he does, we are going to have a serious O-line.)

we did have 5 20 yard plays, at least 4 of which were passes (forget if cartwrights run down the middle was a rush or a toss). The real problem is consistency and throwing short of first down... weinke or whoever for the panters needed 5 yards at one point, he had a guy open 2 yards out, BUT HE HELD ON TO THE BALL, ran back a bit and launched it downfeild instead of doing the redskin's dumpoff. That's the only thing that really got me, the willingness to give up on getting 1st down so easily. I also think thats on of the big reasons we stunk last year... too much throwing it away or throwing way short of the needed yardadge
