Re: Great news!
someone pointed out on dan patrick (sportstalk 980) that we didn't want to give smoot more money in bonuses than springs, then we turn around and pay an unproven rookie 11mill (which iss more than 10mill springs got) without seeing him play a game.
I know he's talented, but still, i'm not sure letting ssmoot go was the best idea. |

Re: Great news!
Honestlty...was Smoot HAT good...he had Green, Bailey and Springs next to him his entire career. I'm pretty confident Rogers can match(or surpass) his productivity.

rodgers is ssupposed to be better, but there's always the off chance of a bust and either way, it'll take time to get him ready. and no i don't think smoot was the best corner ever noviskin, but he was a known and proven quantity and he's a lot better than walt harris, who's going to be his temporary replacement till rodgers is ready and it would have alleviated our need to spend a top 10 pick on something we could have already had

That person would be in line for the same $11 million bonus we gave Rogers. Our cap isn't so healthy that we can make signing of that magnitude without further paring of the roster. I think you may be underestimating Harris as well, who started for six years in Chicago and two in Indy, and only played nickel on the cheap last year because he was recovering from injury. He played all 16 games for us last year as well - something neither Springs nor Smoot can claim.
